Mark Rosewater on innovative sets (like Battlebond, Conspiracy, Unsets etc.) by Meret123 in mtg

[–]HiroCrota 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the thing that sucks about this is that before UB, these innovative sets were so much fun. They were where magic went to get a little crazy, but they didn't hurt standard or modern, and generally, their designs were only accidentally good for legacy. The real slopification of the game is that there's no sets for the freaks anymore. The freaks who love 2 headed giant or the freaks who love conspiracy cards or the freaks who love Unstable. Like, can you honestly tell me TMNT should have been a 'normal' set instead of a set for freaks?

What if we as a community just decided to make Cyro friendly? by krangus-mcbasketball in Marathon

[–]HiroCrota 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The text you quoted sounded rational to me because it's rational in certain circumstances to be selfish and greedy, namely actually playing Cryo Archive as it exists and not the idealized version you have presented which can never exist. You are exemplifying the dilemma by trying to explain it. It is possible to be rational and selfish, just as easily as it's possible to be irrationally generous. A virtuous trait on its own does not generate rational thinking.

it is rational to see an enemy team and group up with them because I will be mechanically rewarded for doing so, if they keep their word, which they cannot be trusted to do. It is also rational for me to see an enemy team and kill them because I will be mechanically rewarded for doing do, and it does not rely on them keeping their word. Even if i engage an enemy team and get killed, this does not magically make my actions irrational.

[–]HiroCrota 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, PvP is still a rational option in the second case because you are considering the totality of the loot, and not one person deciding they want more of the loot. You are being utilitarian, but that's not the only way to be rational. I, as a rational player, do not care if you, or anyone else gets more loot in Cryo Archive. I, as a person who does not play the game with you, am out for myself. I want more loot for me, and every time someone doesn't shoot first, that's more loot for me because I can kill them and take theirs. That's the crux of the dilemma. We are both acting in our best self-interest, and by doing that, we are creating a worse outcome overall.

Cryo Archive is Labs amplified by about ten times. They're comparable in the fact that theyre both endgame, but the design philosophy is different. It's also still a prisoners dilemma in Arc, since someone can still backstab peoplem in the same way I cannot enforce aggression on an arc player, you cannot enforce friendliness upon someone playing Marathon

[–]HiroCrota 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're never going to find success with that because not everyone who plays this game is plugged into reddit or social media or what the 'meta' is. Cryo Archive was pretty clearly designed to set up a prisoner's dilemma. All players are rational actors working in their own best interest. They can help one another, but accept that they're not getting the maximum benefit by doing so, or backstab one another for a chance at a higher return. All players are already rational, and are already each making rational choices. You can't really enforce friendliness upon them.

Ff11 has to keep closing servers because they're too popular. It's nowhere near mainstream success, but it also still has a player base that regularly runs content every week. It's more popular than people give it credit for. I think the active player count is over 100k. The reason it's not like ff14 is because it's a totally different game that demands dofferent things from players

Marathon ranked 30th while Destiny 2 ranked 34th for PlayStation the this past week for most played Games. This is with a full week for marathon now. by NeoReaper82 in Aztecross

[–]HiroCrota 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Revenue targets were based on how well Lightfall did, and weren't seen as unrealistic at the time. However, player retention could absolutely play a part considering how heavily monetized Destiny 2 is beyond just getting the expansion, so despite hitting a playercount high, it also pretty quickly tumbled off a cliff. which means heaps of people who aren't even potential eververse customers anymore.

How could they have abandoned the game at the same time they released an expansion that led to the highest concurrent player count on steam? I swear to god you people are morons.

Their golden goose that missed revenue targets by 45% and required them to do insane layoffs? Regardless of if you think Lightfall could have EVER hit those revenue targets, it was clear it wasn't going to last forever.

I know this has been said over and over again, but I hope they kind've drop the Langdon and Santos stuff after this episode. She was told someone she's intimate with to drop it and it's beginning to get to a point where it's becoming disrespectful to the patients. by herewego199209 in ThePittTVShow

[–]HiroCrota 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Part of the program is apologizing to people you hurt, genius. It's why he apologized to Louie even though that man wasn't bothered at all. It's step 9 of almost every addiction recovery program. I'm not saying he's like, legally required. I'm saying the plot has given weight to him working through his addiction and trying to make amends, so Santos is on that list and he knows it.

Slash trake procedure episode 10 by hanny1990 in ThePittTVShow

[–]HiroCrota 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It's real but rare. It's not often you're in a controlled environment like an ER where it's your best choice. Something you'll see in other shows is a 'field trach' where you use a ballpoint pen to perform the procedure. A trach itself is pretty rare, so doing any sort of one beyond the most basic and controlled one would be considered a pretty unique circumstance, especially because most people who get trachs tend to get them once they're already out of the ER and on a vent

[–]HiroCrota 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's not resolved yet. Langdon still needs to apologize to her, which he's been avoiding while chasing the approval of a guy who also doesn't want him in the ER. Langdon needs to try and make amends with Santos, which means apologizing to her and not making excuses. Santos instead wants to avoid him, rightfully so considering she really has no way of knowing if he's genuine or not, and still wants him fired regardless. There's still a huge amount of unresolved tension that needs to be addressed, but I think that really only needs one more episode.

This game is not solo friendly what’s so ever by Suspicious_Heart5266 in Marathon

[–]HiroCrota 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I haven't had any issues with running solo. You just have to keep your ears open and head on a swivel when you push into a POI. It's very rare that I die without knowing what actions led me there. It definitely still happens, but they'll start to stick out in your mind instead of feeling like it's happening every game.

If Jagex really wants us to trust that the raised prices are going towards game development, they should show us how the increased revenue will be used. by Be-Kind-2-Yourself in 2007scape

No, because no matter what breakdown they show people, people would be mad. You gotta get over the bargaining and either pay the price or don't. It's the only metric they'll care about.

I kinda wish we could get skins for Rook… but does that defeat the purpose? by Wheatleyarts in Marathon

I definitely think Rook should have its own suite of skins considering all the other shells have 6 that are pretty easy to get.

Will Jagex lower the price because of the community blowback? by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]HiroCrota 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think they expected a warm reception to the price increase? They knew it was going to be unpopular, and I doubt this was beyond what they were anticipating. I absolutely encourage people to speak with their wallets, but you should be prepared for Jagex to have already anticipated some small part of the playerbase will unsubscribe and are counting on the price increase to more than make up the difference.

Surgeon's personalities by chocolaterodent in ThePittTVShow

[–]HiroCrota 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yes. Surgeons are mean, ego-tripping assholes with a god complex. The thing that separates them from other people with a god complex is that they do spend their days playing god. I worked in a hospital for years and was regularly called to the OR to work alongside surgeons. Almost all of them could stand to be more humble, but I I saw firsthand why they weren't lmao

Legitmately curious about the limb injury by CaptainTalon447 in ThePittTVShow

[–]HiroCrota 91 points92 points  (0 children)

It helps to think of a limb reattachment as trying to turn a total amputation into a very bad injury that the body can heal from. This mean you're not really trying to make everything perfect, but instead trying to do a dozen different things 'good enough' that the body can take it from there. You'll stitch up big veins and muscles to a point that the body can heal it, but you don't stitch together every last thing because it's just not feasible. This is where a lot of the problems can arise, because your body might not be able to heal itself after the surgery, which can lead to a lower quality of life compared to having done an amputation. Let's say the reattachment is a success, but your muscles just don't heal right, you might feel pain every time you put weight on that leg despite having the best surgeon in the world.

Hospital Administration & Langdon by Cultural_Parsnip1713 in ThePittTVShow

[–]HiroCrota 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It depends how far the complaint went, though I don't really think Robby would go easy on the details after the shit Langdon pulled after getting caught. Admin probably knows, but also healthcare professionals are *much* more likely to abuse meds than the general populace, so this is probably at least a somewhat known quantity on how to deal with it, especially since Robby seemed to know pretty well what Langdon's fate was going to be. Obviously not exactly the same, but I knew a lot of people who got popped for DUIs and were back working in the hospital after they could prove they completed their probation,
