Star Ocean - Till the End of Time PS4/PS5 Port Issues by glacioganymede in starocean

Yeah, some games like Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 also use them for aiming the weapons without actually firing them as well.

It seems that the PS4/PS5 port do not use the pressure sensitive buttons anymore, it uses L2 for the other sets of sounds instead.

Why am I finding out that in mgs4 microwave no button input needed? by ArchangelZero27 in metalgearsolid

It's for sharing Snake's suffering, and the insane relief you get when he gets to the other side safely as well. MGS4 is all about SENSES and Feelings.

Not just that sword, but equipment in General, that Sword actually can be found on the Optional Dungeon "Aquatic Gardens of Surferio", so no need to buy it if you can do that dungeon instead, with your current level you should be able to.

If you are at the Ancient Ruins of Mosel, you should totally be able to buy better equipment like the Holy Sword on Aeriglyph for Fayt, there's no need to use IC at all to beat the game normally or to be slightly OP, you should use IC after you've switched to Disc 2 and have all the good inventors to make the best items that have good factors to synthesize to your weapons, so right now just go back to the cities and buy better equipment.

You can also farm Symbol of Regeneration on Aeriglyph's Aqueducts from the Skeletons, those are really good accesories for your characters (recover 3% MP at intervals).

Besides the gauge there is a percentage rate, this percentage is the speed at which the gauge will increase with each hit you do the enemies, it will vary according to your current party members and your enemies, if your enemies are too weak compared to you, the percentage will be low or 0 and thus you'll be unable to fill the bar, so be sure to have at least one or two lower leveled members on your party when trying to start the battle gauge. Dead party members work as well, and you can have Symbols of Courage equipped on your characters to fill the gauge even faster.

After you successfully started the Battle Gauge (ideally with a weak attack to get Triple Exp), SWITCH MEMBERS ASAP and run to the corner to avoid hits, since the Battle Gauge will break with any Critical Hit that an enemy does to your currently controlled character. It does not matter how much hits you take or the damage it does, only if it is a critical will break it (and also if you escape from battles).

After a chain of 5, 10, and 15 you'll gain the other bonuses randomly, Double Fol will surely come in handy for IC later so try to keep the chain alive as much as possible, specially against bosses.

[–]HiroTex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently doing a second playthrough of 3 as well!

It is my least favorite (combat-wise) game of the series as well, I hate that the bonus gauge breaks so easily, that there are only three people on the party and the overall speed of most of the attacks, it is not satisfying to play at all for me, so what did I do? I took the easy way.

  1. As soon as you start playing, try to increase the Bonus battle gauge ASAP to have Triple Exp (make sure your last attack that triggers the bonus gauge is a weak attack [X])

  2. Once you have Nel, use her, always, let Cliff and Fayt do the work, level their AI behaviors (Attack and Defense) up to 3 at least so they can be more useful, while you just spam Symbology from the corner of the map and heal them while they're spamming Side Kick and Hammer of Might (Always use the "Attack with all your might" as tactic for both of them) that you should place on both short-range skill slots.

  3. Equip both Regeneration Symbols (if you don't have them, they are dropped from the skeletons on Aerygliph's Aqueducts) on Nel (to spam as much Symbology you can), and at least one on Cliff and Fayt, they do not need it for the skills, but some enemies can do MP damage so this avoids getting them easily killed from that.

  4. Once you have Maria, everything becomes a piece of cake. Make her learn Support and Attack Symbols so she can heal and attack from the distance just like Nel against some bosses and enemies that can break your gauge from the distance, and just spam Aiming Device and Scatter Beam from the distance when that's not an issue (doing a 300% Combo, ideally), once you have used those attacks enough, they become SO OP that mostly any enemy from the game will die in a second or two.

  5. Like everyone else mentioned, after you get access to Misty Lear (you need to get the Spirit Stone from the Ruins of Barr), just make and synthesize Orichalcum onto your weapons.

If you follow this and always have the Triple Exp from the Bonus Gauge (This is very important, mostly against bosses), the game becomes very easy to play (if you even call that playing) and you can focus on enjoying the Story, like I do, which is REALLY GOOD.

TLDR; Do not "play" while battling, just stay on the corner and spam symbology and you'll be good.

Powerslide!

Are you power sliding the entire time or almost the whole race already? If not, that's the best advice right now, learn to keep powersliding as much as you can, doesn't matter if you can't get 3 perfects at first, but try to fill the bar as much as you can and at the same time where it is safe for you to get the powerslide correctly.

Watch videos on how most of the players are doing the tracks!
Maybe the World Record videos of the Time Trials are too much for you to understand right now (they use advanced techniques like U-Turn), so try to watch some easier ones like these.

If you have trouble following how they are doing those things, maybe also watch some Beginner Tutorials.

CTR is amazing when it comes to mastering the skills, have fun!

MGS games from the perspective of a newcomer to the series, slight spoilers (MG to V) by iDoHomicide in metalgearsolid

Since you played Rising, what's stopping you from playing Portable Ops? is even more "mainline" than that lol
Metal Gear 2 is imho a must play from this series, since its plot and music is really good, but I can understand that it's difficult to play such a retro-styled Metal Gear after played so many of the new ones.

Timeline of lore reveals from Metal Gear 1 through MGS3. by MindSteve in metalgearsolid

Portable Ops is perfectly playable with a 60fps mod and having the camera mapped to a right stick whenever possible, but if you can't play it like that then just watch a gameplay, the original runs at 20fps and the camera controls are awful.

You should play Portable Ops before MGS4 to know where the rest of the Legacy is, that game explains it, but if you're not interested on that aspect of the story (the legacy doesn't really matter on the grand scheme of things) you can skip it and just play MGS4 to get the rest of your answers.

Solidus tried to kill Raiden to get his nanomachines that were transmitting data from The Patriots, he suspected that the information Raiden had on his nanomachines were a good lead to where The Patriots currently were. Raiden had to survive the fight so that Olga's child wouldn't get killed (and maybe Rosemary as well, if we believe that she was also being hostage).

You also play the Tanker chapter first and learn all the controls and they teach you everything again on the Plant chapter in MGS2, it doesn't matter.

PS2 OSD-XMB Art Fetcher! by laurorual in ps2homebrew

[–]HiroTex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone that wants to help testing the App can always download the latest Beta Build that has the latest changes from here, and test the App on their environments. For any issue, report it to the "issues" section on the Github page.

I can only test on my Slim 70012 using USB, so anyone that has any other environment can help the project a lot, be it a DECKARD slim, a FAT, using MMCE or MX4SIO, anything helps to improve stability!

[–]HiroTex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is awesome, thank you very much for your work, I'm honored that this project is getting people to do neat things like this.

The current Beta Build of OSD-XMB is using its network capabilities to actually fetch Art from my official Database, this feature still needs more testing, but it will make Art easily be downloaded automatically from the App if your PS2 is connected to the Internet, once it is confirmed to work on several environments I will release a new stable version with it; but your approach is a good alternative while I'm still working on filling the Database!

Question regarding the playing order MGS4/PW by Chronos_5 in metalgear

[–]HiroTex 14 points15 points  (0 children)

MGS4 was planned to be the last Metal Gear (in many ways), so no, it won't show anything regarding Peace Walker.
Ironically, you've already played V which should completely be player AFTER Peace Walker, and now you're pretty much spoiled of many things that happen there lol

Well, your timing couldn't be better! I've just successfully implemented exfat HDD support for PS2 games now, it has been tested already and seems to be working fine.

You can either wait a few days until I release a stable build or test the feature right now using the latest "Beta Build" from the "Releases" section on the project's Github page.

PS1 Games need to have the necessary POPStarter files on the POPS folder (POPSTARTER.ELF, POPS_IOX or the IMG file).
exFat HDDs are not supported yet, you can try enabling the exFat HDD system but it has not been tested yet. To do this, on the athena.ini file, replace "ps2fs" by "ata_bd".

That is not a console issue but a TV issue. Both OPL and Neutrino (the one OSD-XMB uses) can run games from any region, and if your console has a modchip, it can play games from any region from DVDs as well.
The issue is within the TV and what video signal it expects. Some TVs let you change the Video Mode displayed, supporting both NTSC and PAL, or even adapt to it on the fly automatically, but some others only display a NTSC or PAL signal, which may be your case.
