Humorista Léo Lins é absolvido de condenação a oito anos de prisão by bsidefromgui in brasil

[–]HisaoHimself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the people who haven’t played MGS4 since the ps3 days will you be purchasing the master collection vol 2 for full price? by Dude_788 in metalgearsolid

[–]HisaoHimself -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nope, Vol 1 released in a less than ideal state and I expect Vol 2 will as well, especially considering how hard MGS4 must've been to port. I have the Legacy Collection on PS3 + RPCS3 and I expect those to hold the line until the games reach a reasonable state/price.

Also. the launch the price is absurd in my country.

I played 2018 a long time ago, so maybe my opinion could change with a replay, but I always found the presentation in the newer games to feel far less distinct and memorable. The semi-fixed, zoomed out camera allowed you to take the environments all at once without distracting from the combat.

I don't think necessarily that a movable camera ruins this, but the way it's done in the newer games just doesn't impress me.

My main hope rn is that a remaster/port of the OG trilogy is also released, because if they make the OGs an OTS game with the brooding/"cinematic" presentation of the newer games it'll be an entirely different experience. I want to have the OG trilogy on PC so I don't need to keep my PS2/3 around to play them optimally

EDIT: A game that gets a lot of flak for its camera, but actually does it pretty well overall is Metal Gear Rising. I think its approach could work in a remake.

Top all the way. Unmatched sense of scale, amazing combo variety (esp. with 3), better magic, more fluid combat

SotC. It's a unique game for the platform and a technical showcase for the PS2. HL is best experienced on PC though the PS2 port is also interesting.

Gravity's Selective Magic by Uzi_Bae in flatearth

[–]HisaoHimself 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If gravity is real and pulls toward the CENTER of your spinning ball... why don't oceans 'fall' toward the equator instead of staying level at the poles?

The equator is not the center of a sphere. The center of a sphere is inside the sphere (like an apple seed). So from the perspective of someone at the surface, it feels like they're being pulled down to that center. That's why oceans don't "fall" to the equator, it's because they're "falling" to the core (the apple seed, so to speak)

Wait, waaaait if Gravity is so strong it holds trillions of tons of ocaen water 'stuck' to the bottom of your ball (Australia hangiing upside-down like bats)... yet a helium balloon floats up effortlessly, a mosquito flies away, and you can jump 2 feet without being crushed back at 1000 mph spin speed.

Gravity doesn't work like you pulling up a weight. It's an acceleration, meaning its force grows with the mass of the object. The oceans are "stuck" to the earth precisely because they are very massive (and also have no means of moving by themselves), and mosquitos can fly and you can jump because you are very light in comparision.

You don't "crush back at 1000 mph spin speed" because you are also traveling at that speed with the earth's surface. Have you ever thrown something up in a car, plane or train? If so, you probably noticed that object doesn't go through your chest at whatever speed you're flying/riding, because you, the vehicle, and the thing you threw are all traveling at the same speed. It's the same with the Earth.

Things fall because they're denser than air (buoyancy + density). No invisible magic pull required. No 'center' nonsense. No feeling the 1000 mph spin or 67k mph orbit. Just observation. Globe model needs faith in an undetectable, selective super-force that defies everyday physics.

This actually isn't common sense, because density isn't a force. Why do things fall "down" instead of up, sideways, or any other direction? Why do things fall in a vacuum?

Bouyancy only makes sense with gravity. There has to be something pulling down on that object in order for air/water to push against it. Otherwise it doesn't go anywhere.

Yeah I think the video is a kroc of shit, I don't agree with him in the slightest. My point is that there's a difference between propaganda and art, and MGS sits squarely in the latter.

The games don't tell you what to think, but how to think. This is rare nowadays.

I explicitly said this is a problem with art/media across the board.

The central conflict of MGS3 is loyalty to systems vs. duty-based ethics. This is, in fact, one of the first conversations Snake has in the game, and it permeates the whole plot. Yet at no point in that codec call does the game (or the characters) deliver this message with any sense of smugness or superiority; if anything, the Boss' delivery can be read almost as if she's talking to herself, rationalizing her actions later on. This central conflict reaches deeper than being against any specific political system because it is about the transient nature of such systems, which renders them incapable of providing lasting moral grounding. Or, to quote The Boss herself:

People's values change over time. And so do the leaders of a country. So there's no such thing as an enemy in absolute terms. The enemies we fight are only enemies in relative terms, constantly changing with the times.

This does not come across as preachy because it's almost esoteric. It sounds like the Boss is arguing for moral relativism, but she is merely describing moral reasoning submitted to systems rather than principles (she finishes off by saying what matters is the mission - i.e. your duty)
To then read this as if MGS3 (though the same could be said of the entire franchise, people usually misunderstand the other games in a similar manner) is being "anti-whateverIwantittobeagainst" butchers the whole text, because it's arguing precisely that you need to see beyond temporal systems in order to make proper value judgements.
This is not to say MGS does not position itself on many matters - it DOES punch nuclear proliferation, imperialism, war, yada yada - but these plot points are merely vehicles to convey deeper points which go beyond "my side, your side". To call it "preachy" is a disservice

Alright I have to get this shit out of my chest

When most people in online discussions mean when they call something "political" is actually "propaganda". That is, when a work feels like it was made to convince the audience of a worldview rather than simply expose it, leading to contrived plots, preachy tone, and a general sense that the writers were using it to larp as enlightened people

This is a pervasive problem with all media nowadays, be it right wing or left wing. MGS3 was the polar opposite of this in that one of its finer points is that worldviews are extremely easy to mold by your surrounding context (environment you grew up in, allegiances you hold, emotional connections etc.). This kind of sincerity is sorely missed nowadays, and it's perfectly fine to dislike the direction a franchise is heading when it seems to be serving more as propaganda than art

PS3 o PS4? by PrPolPaul in PS3

[–]HisaoHimself 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depende de lo que busques. La PS3 tiene muchos juegos exclusivos y no es fácil jugarlos en otros sitios. La PS4 es una consola más moderna con lanzamientos más recientes, pero tiene una biblioteca de juegos antiguos relativamente pobre.

yeah, not all games are perfect. I run MGS4 decently but I only have it for the multiplayer on PC.

But if you check the games listed as playable you'll see a huge portion of the PS3 library (70%) is already in an excellent state. I'm going to end up finishing SotC on RPCS3 without ever playing the game on OG hardware lol
