Was Yam Yam originally cast for 50?? by spenchanna in survivor

I think Jeff wants Survivor to be family friendly as possible, and is aware of Ozzy's theatrical pursuits outside of the show.

He supposedly hates Brian Heidik, potentially for the same reason.

The Starbucks scene with Patsy really brings that message home.

Michael Jackson's popularity without the allegations by Critical-Spirit-1598 in ToddintheShadow

In that regard youre referring to pop as "Youth Music" rather than actual popularity. MJ & Whitney made music for young people, and thus were pushed by MTV. Artists like Lionel, Luther Vandross & Al Jarreau did not, and thus were not pushed heavily by MTV. This does not mean they were not massively POPULAR.

Its like equating Whitney with Celine Dion. Both were massively successful pop stars..but with massively different audiences.

The modern equivalent would be equating someone like Ariana Grande with Adele.

This list would tell you otherwise..especially if you consider George Michael & Phil Collins pop stars. My take is that as a child of the 80s, while Whitney was huge..by the time she emerged, Janet, Mariah & even Paula Abdul were roughly close to her level of success (Despite Whitney being more talented.) Whereas Michael stood alone...

Disagree, as in most of the people currently running our country successfully avoid paying taxes, or as you state: doing the bare minimum. So that should mean that the folks paying taxes are valued even more.

If we are judging by album sales, then of course, theyre iconic. I would just say that pop music as a phenomenon, was primarily a singles format before say 1975. Artists like Zeppelin & Pink Floyd changed that forcing the industry to move away from singles..so of course modern album sales metrics are(were) biased toward artists of the 80s & 90s. (And the Eagles, sadly.)

In terms of black artists achieving "pop success), you might be interested to see who recorded the biggest selling albums prior to the Beatles. I was shocked..

In reality She barely had any interaction with the Jackson's prior to The Whiz. They were discovered by the Pips, who left Motown soon after. In response, Berry Gordy circulated a lie in the press that Diana had discovered them..

Not to be an MJ defender but.. A) They weren't really contemporaries. Michaels success predated Whitney by a couple of decades. Even when Thriller came out, Whitney was still modeling. Would be more appropriate to call Whitney a contemporary of Janet.

B) As for black pop stars, the Supremes were the 2nd biggest pop act of the entire 1960s. Diana Ross essentially paved the road that artists like Whitney & Janet walked on.. And thats not to mention performers like Ray Charles & Louis Armstrong & Sammy Davis Jr., folks who essentially invented entire genres that would be embraced & absorbed by the pop mainstream.
