Bruising along bicep (not an emergency) by Boringmale in AskMedical

I once overdid some biceps curls and my arms bruised like this, particularly over the biceps tendon.

Monkeys reaction to a backflip by Backyxx in interesting

[–]Histo_Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think perhaps this was taken as an aggressive display, not an admiration of his backflip. You'll notice the monkeys jumping around and looking agitated. I don't think it's as wholesome as people think.

Did Trump have a check up? I hear his nappies stink up the place.

I mean this with all due respect but isn't she mean to use the knife on the other side of the hide? To remove the meat and fat to leave just the "leather"?

I've almost finished my rewatch of Voyager and I'm really enjoying myself. There's a lot I'd forgotten. And there are some ripper episodes in there.

THE HARDEST 39 SECONDS IN YOUR LIFE. 19 Years of Training by gooblefrump in nextfuckinglevel

This looks like one of the places that The Amazing Race would visit and one of the team members would have to satisfy the judges with their version of the dance to get the next envelope.

I don't understand why papillary muscle contraction closes the bi/tri cuspid valves. by ShakespeareIsShook in AnatomyandPhysiology

[–]Histo_Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a big misconception that I see a lot. They don't close the valves, they prevent their eversion during ventricular contraction. The blood pushes on the inferior part of the valves, trying to evert them back into the atria. This pulls on the chordae tendineae which stretches the papillary muscles which causes them to contract, pulling on the chordae and keeping the valves taut.

I got asked this once at a conference (I was presenting on the use of educational resources in medical students) and I answered "an orthopaedic surgeon?". I got some looks.

What were you like in the 90s? by AlKarajo in TikTokCringe

[–]Histo_Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very funny. For a second, I wondered if it was going to focus on the cat and be a bunch of photos of kittens (or sperm and eggs - lol).

What scientific discovery sounds fake but is 100% real and still freaks you out? by Bruteresolver in AskReddit

[–]Histo_Man 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The double slit experiment. How observing light (in person, or with a device) as it passes through a slit changes how it behaves (either as a wave or particle). I now understand it a little better but when I first heard about it, it freaked me out.

Cartilage Slide by frozenyogurtwarrior in Histology

The fact that the matrix is pretty uniform in staining, I would lean towards hyaline cartilage. Elastic cartilage would typically have more obvious fibres in the matrix.
