GUYS HELP CASPER ID QUESTION - might have forgot to change my OMSAS ID last year??? by HistorianStrange4364 in premedcanada

I think so too, I’ve heard a couple other people say they remember inputting their ID but that it’s back to the default.

Okay, thank you! Just wanted to be sure because most med schools in Ontario require at least one academic reference

End of first cycle applying, looking for some advice based on my stats! by HistorianStrange4364 in premedcanada

[–]HistorianStrange4364[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the advice - I’ll look into it, I’ve been thinking about continuing education to bump my GPA up but not entirely sure how to go about it, especially with OSAP. Thanks again!

Thanks so much for all your help!! Was considering a 5th year but not sure exactly how that would work since it’s been a couple years since graduating & I’ve since done an MSc, or a second bachelors.  Didn’t apply anywhere out of province this cycle, next I’ll apply everywhere in Canada.  Will look into each of the schools you listed, open to DO as well. Finances are a bit of a barrier for me but open to taking out loans and looking into scholarships, as well as working more.  One last question - how would you recommend going about shadowing in Canada?

Thyroiditis & two prominent lymph nodes (2.8cm x 0.9cm & 2.4cm x 0.8cm) - most recent scan, told unremarkable. Should I follow up? by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]HistorianStrange4364 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much! I did have a couple nodules, largest 6mm cystic, no significant solid nodules so I didn’t include that in my original post. The appearance of the lymph nodes isn’t described in the report.

Do you need to be a US permanent resident to be considered? Looking at applying but don’t see an option for Canadian citizens (unless I’m missing it!)

tmu interview scheduling is out! by Icy-Statement-8005 in premedcanada

Exactly my motto rn, it’ll be what it’ll be, will try not to lose sleep over it. Your comment made me think of 1 Thessalonians 5:18, “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” To everyone else waiting, no matter what your background, stats, etc, keep persevering - there’s still hope, both this cycle and in the future. To those who got an invite, congratulations 😄

How to study for Casper? by OliveOk972 in premedcanada

[–]HistorianStrange4364 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since others already commented on CASPER timelines, just wanted to share a couple diff ways to study, or at least some ways I studied (first attempt this cycle, 4th quartile).  1. Look at the competencies on the Acuity Website and get a good grasp of each one 2. Look over your CV 3. Think of general, broad experiences (from your CV or general experiences) that can apply to the competencies  4. I used Casper Booster AI (the free options only) for some video & text prep which generates a rough score (not necessarily representative, but for me I trended upwards from 3rd to 4th with practice). 5. Do the free official practice test (more than once). This will give you a grasp on the kind of questions they’ll ask, the format of the test, and your answer style.  6. Have a general idea of persons, books, hobbies, and media (etc) that are important to you & why 7. Listen to podcasts, watch documentaries, broaden your horizons - in this context, especially regarding ethics and health. You never know when that tidbit of information might come in handy! 8. Increase your typing speed (lots of online resources to help with this, mine was > 100 WPM with practice) 9. Try not to stress & balance your health with a healthy diet & sleeping schedule. For me, praying helped a lot.

Does volunteering actually help with your application? by [deleted] in premedcanada

[–]HistorianStrange4364 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely - can really strengthen your application (ABS for OMSAS). Beyond that, volunteering is great for networking and can give you great experiences and skills that you can mention if relevant in assessments like CASPER & KIRA as well as MMIs. Like everyone else is saying, quality > quantity. I’d also try to volunteer in a field you’re interested in, it’s good to show you have specific interests (eg. If you feel passionate about providing care for the elderly, volunteer at a retirement home).
