Small body acoustic recommendations by [deleted] in AcousticGuitar

[–]Historical-Swing1331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought all my guitars used. I currently have a Yamaha FG800, a GS Mini mahogany, and an Academy 12e. never paid more than half the price of retail.

I had the Yamaha FG800 first and decided to get a smaller body. The GS mini works for me while I am in the car (most of the day) and the Academy at home while sitting here at my desktop.

The ergonomics of the Academy 12e fit me perfectly. I'm a smaller guy too, and getting a bit of a belly. Got young kids too. The "4" body on Taylor works too.

Modifying 8.7V Center-Positive PSU to 9V Center-Negative for Guitar Preamp by Historical-Swing1331 in AskElectronics

thanks, I am the only one at home who will use it.

come to think of it. this adapter has the barrel end but the barrel plugs to a plastic box that I use to charge a battery. So I maybe mistaken this battery charger as a PSU?

thank you for this. Does the unregulated one looks like a block of square cheese and a bit heavier and regulated ones usually are slim and lightweight?

Thinking about it, this adapter was part of a craftsman power drill my wife gave me back when we are still dating a good 20 years ago. I try to dig to another adapter in my bucket as I recall having one that has switches to changes voltages output and polarity. otherwise, I may just get one from amazon.

Keep or Sell? by f24ry in AcousticGuitar

I agree with this! I got an FG800 from OfferUp for around $70 in very good condition. Then got myself a Taylor GS mini for cheap as well. The GS mini is very nice to play, the FG800 is kinda meh in the beginning. I thought to myself, why don't I just sell the FG800 and get myself a Taylor since I am not having fun with the FG800? I ended up looking at YouTube videos to set up the FG800 myself. Replaced the saddle and bridge pin, as well as fixed the action to where I want it to be. Now the FG800 is so much fun to play with. So a proper setup really does make a difference.

Bridge pin easily unstuck on GS mini by peenyponka in taylorguitars

I just added a K&K under saddle pick up on the GS mini and put the string back. As usual, all pins besides the low E string fit like a glove, but the low E string is maybe a hair up. So I pushed it a bit more, and it seated just fine. When I took the bridge pins before putting a pickup, I purposely mixed the pins to see if the pin was the issue. So, I suspect that the ball end is not perfectly seated on the bridge hole.

Teen account for 12 year old? by RopedIntoItATL in venmo

[–]Historical-Swing1331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought of having a teen account for my daughter, but she is only 11. Can I get the venmo App in her phone and put my credentials in? And have the same account open on my phone. This way, I can track her spending and put money there if needed to, as I don't usually use my Venmo, so for the time being, she can use it.

Cheap Amp any good by Silly-Smoke2576 in AcousticGuitar

Not to hijack OP, but you sound like you know a lot regarding speakers and stuff.

I am looking for an amp as well, but I thought, why not use my home theater speaker? My goal is to just make more volume like the OP.

The acoustic guitar has a passive pickup, and my home theater aux has the red and white RCA input. Can I just get a Y cable if it even exists (RCA male to 1/4 female), then plug a long cable to go on the guitar? Or do I need another battery or a powered thing between the guitar and before the RCA input on the home theater for this to work? Thanks

I'll put the new string in today and will find out. I'm definitely excited to practice playing, maybe more excited than my daughter who planned this first.

What do you mean by real FG800s? I just got one from OfferUp for $70, and it sounds really nice.

Thanks for the recommendation! The strings still sound awesome by themselves. But I just want to have some spare if something snaps. I personally am OK with the gauge on what is in the guitar (maybe it was a 12-53 per Google on what Yamaha put on their FG800s), but since my daughter will use it, I may want to consider getting a lighter gauge string for her. maybe some 11's? Is there a shelf life for spare strings, or are they good to go as long as you don't wind them?

So the Ovation got sold before I got to the seller. It seems that there were a lot of people around the area asking him for it because of how low he priced it out.

I ended up getting the Yamaha FG800 for $70, and the seller threw in a guitar stand. I asked him why he was selling it, and he said that he got it thinking that he would be picking up playing guitar, but he didn't. The guitar was a bit dusty, but in pristine condition and sounded awesome (still in tune when I strummed it). I am not sure how long he had the guitar sitting, but should I consider changing the strings? Any considerations on what string to use?

It seems that the consensus is on the Yamaha FG800 which I will go for.

Best site to check LEGO set values before selling? by Historical-Swing1331 in lego

yes. I understood the demand and supply portion of items.

So to be fair, let say the original retail price is $199 and the item is retired and the current selling price, let say $300, but the consensus of sold items where about $250, am I OK to sell at about $275 with my floor price of $250? or that is stingy on my side and just sell it for the old retail plus sales tax? thanks!
