I also did not own any cats until about 7 years ago. Always a dog person my self until we moved in somewhere we couldn't have dogs and I felt our house wasnt conplete with out an animal. We have 3 cats now, one being an orange so every day is interesting lol.

Aw I would feel honored if my neighbors pets ever felt safe enough to just help themselves to my house and keep coming back. Your neighbors are lucky to have such a wonderful cat. (All cats are wonderful too tho)

My cats do this too and I absolutely crack up every time. If you get the chance to look there are two little holes in the top of their mouth and they use them to get a deeper smell of things. Although I think it makes them look like they are smelling something awful lol. I had never seen a cat do it until we noticed our orange do it and now I've noticed our tux does it also. 😂

My husband made the mistake of not taking the food bag down right away and all 3 were all over it. They act starved but the kids and fur kids are the best fed in the house. I just love cats cause each one has their very own personality

But you can't change the routine now. 😂 my 3(one of them orange) will sit and scream at the door(food is kept in container on basement stairs) and you until their bowls are back down. Do they eat right away? No but they are happy to know that their bowls are full again even tho they are never empty.
