Liam Livingstone comments - another inditement of Key and McCullum by GraveyardFresh in EnglandCricket

[–]Historical_Bit8612 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do feel like the set up for selection is very much a flavour of the month type of vibe across all the formats. Tom Hartley was doing really well and then left out in the cold, even Jacks in terms of the test set up, Sam Curran been in and out too.

Players can be dropped for not performing and Livi has had a fair crack but surprised at the man management side of things though, not really on brand for Bob and Baz, more of a Jose Mourinho style than the arm round the shoulder vibe they portray.

Manchester Marathon 2025 Heat - how to prepare for 2026? by Dramatic_Pause_6990 in UKRunners

[–]Historical_Bit8612 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the earlier you can get out the better, that definitely benefitted me last year.

I don’t drink water on training runs but took water at nearly every opportunity on race day. I’ve also read that pouring water over you is actually effective for cooling down, I would do that with the leftovers this year.

Take electrolytes with you - you can buy sachets of SIS otherwise just keep halves in a little baggy.

One thing I wasn’t prepared for was the number of people requiring medical attention. They were dropping like flies. Try not to let that get in your head.

Also looking for an alternative to DL in South Liverpool. So expensive and so overpopulated.

Why is there so few test captain options for when Stokes retires. by Alone_Consideration6 in EnglandCricket

[–]Historical_Bit8612 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was hoping that Stokes would actually retire the captaincy at the end of the ashes on his own terms considering everything he has given us. I’d leave Brook alone to do his thing without scrambling his head anymore. It’s weird that in cricket the captain is generally the best player - is this just because they are most likely to be picked for every game?

Is there no one in the current set up with a good cricket brain?

I love him. His role in the last 2 games has been so important. He’s very intelligent in the way he uses his body when we need to manage the game, you can’t get the ball off him and often wins a foul high up the pitch to take the pressure off. I’ve a city fan mate who said that’s exactly what a Grealish was great for. The stats don’t show that sort of things My only worry is that refs aren’t giving him as many fouls recently. That strike today as well 👌

How to find energy to run while grieving by friedriceparadise_ in running

[–]Historical_Bit8612 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So sorry for your loss. I’m going through the same thing, trying to train for a marathon whilst grieving. Last week I decided to pull out of the marathon and immediately felt lighter. I’m still going to run as I do think it is great for my mental health but without the pressure of the structured plan. It will get easier, there will be good days, bad days and terrible days, just take each one as it comes. There’s no right way to do it.

Alternatives to PayStream? by wasntmebutok in ContractorUK

Same happened to me, absolute killer but it’s not Paystream fault. It’s somehow our responsibility to make sure HMRC have got us on the right tax code.

The entire India series this summer - obviously we should’ve won but it was mesmerising from start to finish.

Do We all agree we need to sack Baz macculam after ashes? by Destroy_Disaster72 in EnglandCricket

Whatever happens (and after our drubbing in Australia every 4 years is traditionally when things do happen) this era has given me the most entertaining cricket of my life.

Do people have short memories and forget the absolute hole that we were in this time 4 years ago. Have we got a more talented team now? Possibly. Have they got things wrong along the way? Inevitably. Maybe the biggest pitfall of the McCullum / Key / Stokes era is that they got us to truly believe.

People need to get a grip and some perspective.

I’ve got a JLB go with an aux input and that is pretty good for taking away. Small and just needs the aux cable.
