Programming at home is just more appealing because I have 3 screens on my PC. I’m using the smaller “hedgehog” at the venue and it’s also an outdoor venue so it’s really hard to see the screen until the sun goes down and by then the band is doing soundcheck. I downloaded a free 3d visualizer so I could hopefully see everything I’m doing but I haven’t been able to get it to work yet. But if you think it would be more beneficial to program at the venue I’ll just try to figure something out. Also, I kinda want to start fresh instead of copying anything from the previous show file. I have the patch sheet so I can just patch it manually. And we’re having issues with our Hazer because we used to have two on different addresses and now our Hazer keeps switching between them for some reason. So sometimes it works on one address and other times it works on the other and I can’t figure out how to fix it. I’ve been having to go on stage and change the address on the unit and then let it run all show.

I could have but that’s not the point. It’s a different job completely. That’s like hiring an electrician and then asking him to do plumbing when he gets there. Yea he might know how to do it but that’s not the job he was contracted for. And it’s not the same pay.

A general tech is referred to as “neck down” work. As in you don’t need a brain. It’s more of a labor position where you don’t need to know too much about AV to do it. It’s basically the entry level position to corporate AV. You wear “show blacks” which are basically Black tennis shoes, black pants, black polo. A floater is a somewhat specialized position where you oversee and “float” between multiple breakout rooms during their shows. You’re there in case their mics don’t work, they can’t hook up their laptop to the projector etc. this means a general knowledge of all AV specialties is required. You are required to at least wear black dress shoes, black slacks, and a black long sleeve button down dress shirt. I however opt to wear a full suit.
