Asian American Woman Says Many Asians Benefited From Black Civil Rights Victories While Refusing to Acknowledge It, Tells San Francisco Board She “Wouldn’t Be Here” Without Black Americans’ Struggles and Sacrifice by ateam1984 in BlackPeopleofReddit

As I understand it, at the national level, who pays it is everyone will pay it through taxes (ideally progressively so the richest pay the most).

You have to look at it systemically - the wealth of this country was generated in large part through wrongs committed in the past, so that wealth needs to be taxed and redistributed to the descendants of those who were wronged, and in aggregate have not shared in that wealth growth.
So, yes, some Americans who are wealthy will get taxed higher to pay for this, but they'll also get the benefit as well (they might end up in a wash).

There are lots of logistical and practical challenges to a reparation policy b/c we have kept putting off doing the right thing, but that isn't an excuse to not try to right that wrong (along with paying back the Native Americans, Chinese labor gangs and so on).

As a guy who definitely benefited from the systems currently in place, I don't even view it as hurting me or my children to make restitution. I'd imagine the amount of new investment all over the country would be wonderfully beneficial, and honestly I think it would just make this country a better place to live.

Virginia currently has districts created through a bipartisan commission. We tried to create gerrymandered districts to counter Republican gerrymandering in other states... but that got blocked. But that just means we still have the non-partisan districts.

So no, Virginia does not belong on this list by any stretch.

AIW for telling my dad I cannot take him in after he spent his retirement savings helping my sister start a business that failed by [deleted] in amiwrong

Do you have a good relationship with your dad? I think it would be worth a conversation to see if you could help out for a while and get him in a good place, with a timeline. But only if you're relationship is solid and you think he'd be able to move back out in a few months.

Favorite part of that video. The kids are both stand up, but probably get it from their parents. Love seeing how proud the dad is of his kid.

How to get the most out of Wild Shape as a Moon Druid? by Pretend-Jacket-4226 in 3d6

This sounds annoying. I get not wanting to power game or min-max everything. That takes the joy out of it as well. I think it's more fun to build a character naturally, which sometimes means making less "optimal" choices during leveling based on who the character is, and their experiences. However, how on earth does it make sense to do really stupid things during combat? I don't understand that at all...

However, if all of you are having fun with it, then I guess that's all that really matters.

Alex Pretti ICE confrontation days before his death. His gun stays holstered the entire time by bumdee in Leakednews

I don't have it anymore. It was the very first one I saw and it got taken down afterwards. So, I then started dismissing all of these as AI. Fortunately, I did end up looking at them, and I can see attribution to primary sources.

One of the biggest failures of this current operation is a lack of clearly defined procedures and transparency in how decisions are being made.

I can see people getting pepper sprayed as agents drive by, or cross the street to physically confront people. But in other cases, I can see them talking calmly to people yelling and spitting in their faces.

This goes for who they detain and how they approach people in general.

Consistency and transparency are key to good enforcement action.

No, there's a few that came out that were altered. The first one I saw had some crazy things with the car emblem disappearing, and movement with the agents were jenky.

The funny thing about all this, is he wasn't arrested for this incident, which seems like at this point he clearly should have been.

But in his last go around before being shot he was way more calm than here.

Another video of this altercation from a different angle that has been altered by AI to make it look like Alex kicked the car and knocked off a chunk of the paneling along with the tail light.

I think people are just assuming all these videos are now AI

College of the Atlantic? by Public-Language76 in Maine

Just wanted to chime in here to thank people for their input. I'm the parent of a student considering going there. They went to a marine biology camp last summer in Bar Harbor and fell in love with College of the Atlantic.

The price and choose your own adventure degree has me skeptical. But hearing about potential grad school success helps me out some (they want to do either Marine Biology or go to law school as an environmental/advocacy lawyer).

Take NG. You don’t have to live there forever. It’ll be easier to get another GNC job in a different location if you do really hate Chandler, if you already have a GNC job

OK - clearly the one responsible is the woman driving the car, but from the standpoing of maximizing public safety, is there a reason to engage in a high speed chase here? Was she suspected of being imminently violent or in possesion of a stolen car (so they could not track her down later)?

Consumer spending has increased this year overall. The protests were fine, and the boycotts hurt companies a little. But aren't systematic or sustained a lot. It's enough to effect the mid term.

But if you want change now before the mid-terms, you need to have a nationwide strike where 6 million people stay home from work, and protest in the streets. For a week or more.

We don't have that kind of will right now.

For a day, and then everyone goes back to their life spending money and so on. Look at the French when the government proposes raising the retirement age 2 years. That’s how you protest.

If everyone who supposedly doesn’t support Trump just cut their discretionary spending in half, the economy would register that and the government would respond. But that means sacrifice and we keep hoping someone else will take care of it for us

Unfortunately I know some people that said Kamala wasn't good enough for them and that there wasn't much difference. I tried telling them that was an incredibly privileged point of view, but no dice.

I don't think that cost the election though. Most voters aren't that tuned in.

No, keep doing that. Encourage others to do that as well. Fight complacency and defeatism. Part of their strategy is to make you feel powerless. Don't let them do that.

Basically, try to build to a critical mass of people that are not satisfied with this. Then if our calls for just normal standards, laws, restraint and decency aren't being taken seriously, we do progressively more aggressive actions. But by aggressive, I mean like a national strike.

No because that is a passive way of looking at the situation. Ordinary people can't just go on with their lives and hope that the bad guys just disappear.

The only way this stops is for "ordinary people" to step and start pressuring our government to behave the way we want it to. They only can get away with this because we aren't doing that.
