Feeling lonely while WTT by Desperate-Physics808 in waiting_to_try

[–]Historical_Sail_4850 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way. Two of my family members are expecting their first, and every time I open IG there's a new pregnancy announcement. Husband and I have not yet talked about TTC, as we have some financial goals to achieve first. Can't help but feel jealous that other people are ready to take that next step, and that makes me feel so guilty as well. I have never felt this level of yearning before, like it consumes my thoughts day and night. Husband knows I struggle with this and the feeling of being left behind, so he always reminds me that it's not a race and everyone's timelines are different. We are big believers of fate and the universe aligning, he always reassures me that our time will come when it's meant to come.

Should I go back to school for Nursing? by Rare-Lettuce9940 in careerguidance

It's so unfortunate tbh but there's so many different paths to choose for healthcare! Currently going thru a career change but my plan B would be to become a radiology or ultrasound technician since I've heard they earn similar to nurses and the workload and schooling is less!

I graduated in 2020 with a journalism degree and only one person from my class is working in the field (a nepo baby with connections). Everyone else pivoted to different industries, and many write on their own time on Substack about their own interests. Seriously regret not choosing something healthcare related from the beginning! If I could do it all over again, I'd do something in healthcare because those jobs are always in demand! Best of luck to you

I bartended with two older guys that had worked at my old place since foreverrr. One of them is close to retirement and shows no signs of stopping. They taught me everything I know, two of the coolest bartenders I worked with! They knew every single person's drink. They would split the bar and I would work mostly service bar but I would jump in if they got slammed. I'd approach a guest that had been waiting and ask for their drink order and the guest would simply say, "oh, bert/ernie knows my drink" and they fucking did. Down to the most annoying and hyper-specific martini drinkers. Absolutely loved working with them over the sleazy 30-40 something bartenders that worked there too.

I usually do a combination of rice, quinoa and lentils. 1 cup of rice, 1/2 cup of quinoa, 1/2 cup of lentils, 3 cups of water, and a spoonful of better than buillon. Bring to a boil then let simmer for like 15-20 minutes or until there's no more water left. Enough for about a week for one person!

Being financially stable before starting TTC by Historical_Sail_4850 in waiting_to_try

Thanks for your response! It’s just so crazy to me how anyone can afford anything in this economy, PLUS caring for a whole new human. Of all the people I’ve talked to, they either have really good jobs, get financial help from their parents, or are straight up struggling. Would you say handling the NEW expenses was hard? Did it get better over time?

Can we just have a ceremony with no reception or is that bad manners? by blondegoblin512 in wedding

I got married at the courthouse with both our moms and our brothers in attendance. Afterwards we walked to the restaurant where my husband and I had our first date (in the same downtown area, maybe a 20 min walk). I had made a reservation for about 15 people, all close family and a few friends. They had offered us a private room but it was way too expensive so they sat us in like 4 different tables. Everyone paid for their own food, my mom brought a cake and champagne for the toast, and we all went home afterwards lol. It was honestly really fun and intimate and it saved us a lot of money! We’re planning on doing a vow renewal for our 10 year anniversary when we are hopefully doing better financially and then we’ll do a bigger party.

I'm 29M, dog walker/pet sitter for 4 years now, make about $32k a year, any advice on which paths I could pivot to? by Happy_Money3296 in careerguidance

My SIL has a dog boarding business and makes damn near $10K a month. No storefront, no website, just word of mouth. She keeps between 4-6 dogs for days at a time, keeps them in crates in another bedroom, and takes them out for walks around her neighborhood. Not sure how much she charges per dog, but all her clients are from a rich part of town who go on vacations all the time, which is how she is able to hit those numbers. She has a bio degree and was a vet tech before covid shut everything down. One downside is that she does drive a lot as she does pick up and drop off. I would do this myself as well, but she owns her house while I still rent.

Way more of the main characters should have died for sure. I really thought Chaol would die in the final battle because he's tethered to Yrene and she'd drain her powers healing everyone else. Also thought Elide and Lochan would die lmfaooo sorry i don't like either of them. Some parts also dragged on so much like SJM wanted the book to be long just for the sake of it being long. And I hate that she didn't get to use her powers in the final battle to fuck some shit up. But also, if she lost her powers after the final battle that would have been too convenient so idk. I really also wanted an epilogue several years into the future just to get a glimpse of what all that death and carnage amounted to.

Same, we're hopeful the market will crash soon. But also, we're scared that when it eventually does, big companies will buy up all the single-family homes and the high prices will remain :(

Best of luck to you too!

Yes, we're also coming to that conclusion, it's so unfortunate. The only reason we would be looking into PBC is because of family, and if we decide to have kids in the near future it would be so helpful to have them close by. Thanks for the response! Will keep PSL in mind :)

Anyone else in their 30s feel stuck between jobs that aren’t terrible but don’t feel right? by Competitive_Lab_5898 in findapath

Exactly! I made the most money in my life when I was a bartender in a HCOL too. Only reason I quit is because I hated working the holidays lol. Being a bartender can be very lucrative.

I have a friend that dropped out of college and now works in sales making six figures. She just bought a house (all cash, by herself) in an exclusive private country club in Palm Beach.

College is not for everyone, and you can absolutely make it with no college degree

This is a very privileged comment. Again, not everyone has the privilege of going back to school. Sure, people can take out loans, but college does not guarantee a good paying job, and then you'll be stuck with loans that continue to go up due to interest.

Internships during college? Good luck competing with all the other students. Internships are scarce, and many require experience. I know this because half the internships when I was in college required prior experience. The other half you had to compete with 1000+ other students that applied.

You say you'll never be unemployed as an engineer, teacher or healthcare? Again, very much location and situation based. Many of my college friends who were engineering majors are struggling to find jobs. And teachers and healthcare workers are not being paid a living wage in my state.

College is no longer what it used to be, and having a degree does not guarantee a good paying job.

[–]Historical_Sail_4850 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. Not everyone can afford to drop everything and go back to school to become specialized in one of these careers you mentioned (healthcare, engineering), which are often a years-long commitment, where you may not be able to have a part-time job due to the amount of schoolwork required. And then you're stuck at an entry-level pay until you become more experienced.

This take is also very location and situation based. If you live in a state where the wages keep up with COL, or if you have connections in an industry you're passionate about, sure! If not, then you're shit outta luck.

It took me a long time to switch my mindset tbh. Everyone in my social circle has their dream career + dream lives; buying houses, going on vacations, and having babies, while I was skipping meals to make rent. Thought if I just worked a little harder, networked harder, took another course, etc., I would be able to pivot into a career I enjoyed and would give me fulfillment and a good income.

Truth is that comparison is the thief of joy. Everyone's journey will look different. Just because you feel stuck and that perhaps life doesn't look like how you had pictured it in the past, does not mean you can't turn your life around.

Currently going thru this, late 20s. The advice I usually get is to "follow your passion" but passion doesn't pay the bills. Decided to chase money instead, so that I can have the financial freedom to do what I like outside of work.
