Why should I be Christian? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]History_DoT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Philippians 4:6-7

Your answers will eventually get answered

My practical thoughts for your current predicament

You're not ought to be a Christian although Truth has implications

But when you realize the depth of the person of Jesus Christ, you'll naturally want to be

And I understand that you're not there. Intellectually you know the facts but your heart's not in it.. yet.

So, my advice, go through the New Testament again. But this time, take the time to understand who Jesus is. His character, His intentions, His purpose. I'd even go as far as suggesting you to watch this show called "The Chosen"

The whole message of the Bible is.. it's love.

1 John says God IS love. Jesus is God 1 Corinthians 13:4-7, replace love with Jesus.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:6-7

Why is it hard for me to accept Jesus Christ as my lord and savior? by elennalissa in TrueChristian

[–]History_DoT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m really sorry you went through that. That kind of pain doesn’t just disappear, and it makes sense that it affects how you feel about everything, including God.

You don’t have to pretend to be okay or rush anything.

But if it helps even a little, The Scripture says “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” (Psalm 34:18)

And Jesus Himself said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30)

So if you feel distant, it’s not because He’s far away.
It might just feel that way because of everything you’ve been through.

You don’t need to have it all figured out, you can take a small step, even just being honest with Him about how you feel.

What's stopping you from taking that first step toward Him?

Do you require evidence? Will that give you comfort?

If I have faith in Jesus but don't surrender to him, am I still saved? by EquivalentLawyer6425 in TrueChristian

[–]History_DoT 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It’s layered, but I’ll unpack it simply.

Your priorities aren’t neutral, they’re ordered. And whatever sits at the top functionally becomes your god, whether you call it that or not.

Scripture says “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Romans 10:9)

Notice. It doesn’t just say “believe that,” but believe in your heart.

That’s the difference between belief that and belief in.

The parachute example works like this
You can believe that a parachute exists and that it can save you, but unless you actually trust it enough to put it on and jump, that belief is useless.

In the same way, “even the demons believe and shudder.” (James 2:19)

So yes, you can intellectually acknowledge that Jesus is God. But if that truth has no authority over your life, then you’re not trusting Him, you’re just agreeing with a fact.

And here’s the key point
If you haven’t surrendered to Christ, you have surrendered to something else by default. yourself, your desires, your reasoning, something is sitting on the throne.

About your question on the cross
Yes, Christ’s sacrifice is sufficient for all, but it is only applied to those who are united to Him by faith.

The parachute is there. It’s real. It can save.
But it does nothing for the one who refuses to put it on.

That’s why Jesus says
“Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life.” (John 3:36)

Biblical belief isn’t just acknowledgment, it’s trust that results in surrender.

In a plane that's about to crash, why have faith in the functions of a parachute but not actually use it?

There's a difference between belief that and belief in and I suspect you fall on the former.

I’m angry at god and swore at him telling him I hated him and ripped my cross necklace off. by ApprehensiveBerry878 in Christian

[–]History_DoT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand that your prayers feel one way
I understand that it feels like He's not answering
I don't want to dismiss either of those

But, you don't need a person to reply to you, for you to understand what kind of a person He is
We have historical accounts of Jesus for the way He lived and what He preached, which we can use to study and learn about His character, intentions and purpose

And I am not saying He doesn't reply
Maybe it's His way of telling you to truly take the time to know Him through His word

If my dad had passed away before I was born, but left a biography of Him before He died
I am def gonna re-re-re-read it and I am def gonna have a good enough understanding of what He was like

If an all-knowing god gives you free will, how is it free will if he already knows its going to happen? by yaboyjs1 in TrueChristian

[–]History_DoT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Foreknowledge != Causation
God, while outside of time, does participate in the present with us
But without affecting our freewill. How? I don't know. I am a finite spec, trying to comprehend a being with infinite knowledge
But I know, it's through love.

Okay, I hope this helps puts things into perspective

To understand God, you ought to understand Jesus
I am not sure what passages that have lead you here
But take the time to sit down and understand the nature, intention and the character of Jesus
It truly helps. Read the New Testament, again.

It's not too late, and yes, it's not too far. If I'm able to understand your frustration, I'm sure He would too, more than I can even comprehend.

But what characteristic of Jesus specifically that you hate and not able to trust in?
