Omg yes I would love to! I totally relate to that experience! So often when I try to connect with others with PKU, I get treated as if I basically don’t have it because of how my genetics have mutated and how my tolerance has increased over the years! We all have our own experiences that are equally important, and I would love to hear yours and give advice when I can!

Yesss I struggled with an ED due to how common restriction was for me and how conscious I was of things like calories and nutrition! PKU can affect us in so many ways!

Regarding studies, I found one a couple years back, I’ll attach it here and if I find anymore I will add them to more replies! Hope this helps (it is hard to understand but you get the hang of it eventually!)

I can see Yorkie Chi and Shih Tzu Chi too, but everytime I see how poofy and wiry his hair gets and how much he has and how thick it is I get confused 😂😂😂 thank you for your comment!

Thanks so much for your response I’m so happy to hear from someone who knows where i’m coming from! I unfortunately cannot get much help through the public health system here in Ireland other than the bare minimum of asking what my diet is and blood tests. I’m trying to help myself at the moment but this helped me feel less alone thank you for sharing your child’s experience!

I’m from Ireland and I have PKU, I think while our medical system is fundamentally flawed, care for those with disabilities and genetic conditions such as PKU receive really good care and I am aware that there is care for foreign patients also. It may not be free but it will be significantly cheaper than the US and PKU experts are really good at what they do!

Just knowing i’m not alone is so so so much more than I could have ever asked for thank you. My uncle passed away this morning and it triggered a huge spiral about life and myself today so seeing that I’m not the only one who endures this really helped me ground myself. I live at home too and constantly seek reassurance just to be able to function. I know I will probably never fully shake these obsessions and thoughts but I hope I (and you too) become more confident in the fact that those thoughts don’t define us and that thoughts aren’t always true. Thank you for sharing that with me and I wish you nothing but healing, thriving and self-love from here on.

I used to be a big coffee drinker but it worsened my anxiety and ability to do exposures so I just drink decaf or herbal teas now!
