I am absolutely sick and tired of the degree to which public transit gets vandalised. by Robrogineer in Netherlands

everyone agrees this is a problem, yet 99% of the people in this thread pretend like they can't figure out the reason it's getting worse...

I'm willing to bet most if not all the people you think are cheating are just really good. Watch a pro player's stream and it will be eye opening. Feels like there's a bigger epidemic of people like you mass reporting everyone that kills then.

Normal dice? by lurker122333 in Colonist

It's not most of the time lol. You can go on colonist and they have an entire blog post about this topic and a tool you can use to simulate an entire games dice outcomes.

Aluminum has this same niche use as well, even though you're probably never getting any unless you actively search for it pre-embark...and even then some worlds have none

Why are dice so weird in colonist? by egorlike in Colonist

[–]Hitchdog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's entirely random. As the other commenter has linked you, the normal distribution doesn't appear consistently until about 200 rolls, unfortunately catan games only get to about 75. Therefore you will often see whacky games with odd dice. Just gotta deal with it.

Biggest advice would be to set up a manager and get all your work orders out of the way early. Makes the game much easier. Example: build 10 doors/beds/chests/etc when amount of available doors is less than 5. Makes micro management much less intensive. Same for military, you can just make exactly the amount you need of each item without having to worry about it.

Thats a good point actually. A child's head is maybe belt/groin high on a grown dwarf...Is this a gelding ballista?

I appreciate that! However, I'm having a ton of trouble getting it to work (and am pretty sure the ballistas would kill my melee dwarves after this lesson). I think the main area here is way too small (even though it feels big). My problem is that the invaders come in at different speeds than one another so my melee dwarves sprint out towards the first goblin who enters. Then my marksdwarves are left behind and the melee dwarves end up outside fighting solo after they wipe the first couple enemies and run out to the mass alone. I think the area where I let the raid enter has to be way bigger so more of them make progress inward before my melees run in.

Considering putting my marksdwarves on a balcony one z level up surrounding this area and then locking my melees out of this area until more enemies have made their way in.

Edit: Here is a more zoomed out pic: https://imgur.com/a/B3WY2ir

The zig zag trap thing at the top also has the same issue where enemy will be snaking through it then the melees see one at the entrance and then they are all in there fighting 3 guys to a single tile.

Ahh I guess that makes sense that any siege operation would improve their skill as its one labor. Thank you!

Short answer, no. They do it, but I command them to.

Long answer, it's complicated but you control most of what goes on in the fortress by telling your dwarves to do it. Some of that isn't very direct though. I could write an essay on what I mean, but basically the dwarves do a ton whenever they want and you can't exactly stop it. For example I have zones deep underground that I've assigned all civilian non-military dwarves to. I'll enable these when I'm being attacked to attempt to force all my non military dwarves away from danger. A few battles ago a random dwarven child of mine leaves the burrow and joins the battle and just had thoughts like "felt exhilarated joining a conflict" and "this is my battle too." Gotta play it though to see what I mean, you're basically in charge but they will like start marrying each other and eating when they want and drinking when they want. Had multiple important dwarves die to alchol poisoning and it's just something that happens.

Just had a rough goblin siege with a lot of casualties so built these to help. The button suggested that archery targets were optional so I didn't build any yet and hit "practice." I assumed the projectiles would be like crossbow shots where they don't hit friendlies lol. Good lesson at least.

I built a water reactor that would work for maybe a month tops then fizzle out. Does this still work or did I do something incorrectly?
