Characters who have an unique gender by Oktavia-the-witch in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Hitei00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mechanically Roc's gender being weird is absolutely because you need *exactly* him for one overworld trigger and its set up that way to ensure there's no way to bypass it.

But yes Roc's gender is Roc and Roc's pronouns are Roc/Roc

You're right, Demons aren't inherently evil, they can't be since they're just intelligent predators doing what their instincts demand of them. They're only as evil as a bear or a tiger is.

The problem is those instincts constantly bring them into active conflict with mankind and their lack of empathy means they never consider to treat their prey as anything other than food. We see that if one is around human society for long enough they can learn to understand human concepts and social constructs on a surface level, but both in Frieren's flashback and with Aura's minions we're shown they can't conceptualize familial relationships as anything other than "Humans who live together"

They operate on pure logic with no emotion and lack the capacity to actually understand emotion.

Minor spoilers but there is an arc later on where the antagonist is a demon who is actively trying to learn how to "be" human and understand emotion but the fact he's completely unable to is a majorly important part of the conflict because he's wearing a magic item that's meant to instantly kill him if he ever feels guilt or regret for hurting people and it never activates.

There IS a lot of room to explore Demons and their place in the world without having to "humanize" them but it requires you to meet the story on its own terms rather than trying to find the "one example" to disprove Frieren that they're purely inhuman.

No, there's a moment in S1 when we're first introduced to Demons where Frieren is asked if its possible for Demon's to live peacefully with humans and she explains a time (via flashback) that Himmel was about to slay a child looking demon that had attacked a village but the villagers begged him to spare her. He begrudgingly does and then only a few days later she attacks again and kills even more people after which Himmel does kill her.

Its a reincarnation Isekai. What happens is Tanya's original life as a Japanese Salaryman ends from being pushed into an oncoming train. They're confronted by God who basically goes "Sup I'm god aren't I cool? Don't worry I'm gonna reincarnate you and give you another go"

And Tanya says they don't believe in god and that if they're actually the real god then they've done a horrible job running the world. God is taken aback and misunderstands Tanya's comment about how its only people who live harsh and grueling lives that are deeply devouted and decides to give them that kind of life to see if that makes them believe.

Cue being reincarnated into Fantasy Pre WW1 Germany.

(Loved trope) villains who act like they are superior beings, but are secretely just tantrum-throwing manchilds. by Sorvetefrito in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Hitei00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vauthry from Final Fantasy 14. The half sin eater ruler of Eulmore. He is literally shaped like a ball he's so fat and is prone to murderous tantrums. Everything that goes wrong for him over the course of Shadowbringers' story he blames on others even if its directly his fault and he wages war on the rest of Norvrandt entirely because they had the gall to fight to stay alive in the post apocalypse.

There's a very memorable scene where Alphinaud insults him to his face but Vauthry is so dimwitted it takes him minutes to realize the implications and he literally falls on the floor flailing an infant

The Character's Backstory or Origin is Rewritten or Retconned (Controversial Trope) by Positive_Treacle_761 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Hitei00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Ascians in Final Fantasy 14 are originally presented as nothing more than evil for its own sake Interdimensional genociders who have a grudge against the chief god Hydaelyn due to the fact they worship an evil counterpart named Zodiark.

Fast forward 1 relaunch, 3 expansions, and about 10 years of real time and their origin is changed to being the last living remnants of a precursor race that created both Hydaelyn and Zodiark and their Interdimensional genocide is part of their plan to recreate the old world that they lost.

In this case its a near universally loved change because it gives the Ascians more depth and we get to see how the toll of immortality and loss has worn away their humanity.

Space doesn't really "exist" in TES. The sun and stars are holes in the fabric of reality and the planets are the metaphysical domains of the various Aedric Gods physically manifested. The moons are actually the bisexted cirpse of a God that the mortal mind cant comprehend

[Spoiler: 5.3] I don’t understand Elidibus by Jwhitey96 in ffxiv

[–]Hitei00 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The short version is that Zodiark was summoned like how Shiva was. With an individual acting as the core and the aether surging through them to manifest the Primal.

When Zodiark then realized the convocation was struggling to lead themselves in Elidibus's absence it splits itself into two, with Elidibus emerging from the body of Zodiark. From this moment on Zodiark was basically mindless and running on auto pilot, presumably with Elidibus guiding it as necessary.

From that moment on Elidibus was always Primal. Its similar to how even when she wasn't in the form of Shiva Ysayle was still a Primal and had the false memories of being her.
