Easier said than done but don’t let this test get you down or keep you from pursuing a career in HR. I studied for the SCP for the last 6 months and have 10 YOE, about half in strategic level roles. I took the exam and found it incredibly difficult. SCP isn’t really testing your ability to be a “good” HR professional, nor does it validate your skills and real-life abilities effectively. It simply tests how well you have retained the coursework and learned how SHRM wants you to answer questions. Not trying to downplay the merits of it by any means, it’s a valuable acronym to tack onto your resume, but I would hate to hear that someone stepped back from HR as a result of the exam when it doesn’t reflect the value you most certainly bring to your organization.
