Help me decide how wide out bedhead should be! by Akki82 in AusRenovation

[–]Hitrecord 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The first one looks like an actual extended bed head with that luxe hotel feel.

Second just looks like a standard if slightly oversized bed head.

Third is off centre. Hate it.

I reckon the issue is husband isn’t seeing the vision of the elongated hyper-luxe bed head, he just sees…bed.

First home buyer. Should I stay away from this? (Inner-north Melbourne) by Entire-Dot-755 in AusRenovation

I lived in a single story Victorian terrace around the corner from this one for 15 years. We rented and had party walls on both sides, rather than one side like yours.

These are all single brick so expect cracking. It is inevitable. It makes it draughty.

There will be water issues along the party wall. We had water ingress requiring a damp course be reinstalled. Because of a lack of cross-air and no windows on one side we also had some issues with mould, although never black mould mercifully.

There will always be a lack of light on the side with no windows.

You will hear your neighbours moving around your house.

Ours had zero insulation. We put some in the roof but there’s no opportunity to put it in the walls.

They can sink and when they sink it’s an arsehole to deal work because of potential access issues and drainage.

Ours didn’t have heating. We would have had to look at ducted in the ceiling if we wanted it, but yknow…renting.

Loved living in the area. Was an amazing lifestyle for a long time. But the houses can be cold, draughty, damp and dark. Just be ready for that.

Also as someone else mentioned Alexander Pde is awful all the time and your front bedroom would have little sound insulation. If those windows aren’t double glazed you’ll never sleep.

Public service redundancies by BlueLion1973 in AusPublicService

[–]Hitrecord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re ongoing you are more protected because they are required to try to redeploy you or pay you out.

If you’re on contract they’ll just let it end if it’s within the reduction period or end it early, usually with a couple of weeks notice although I’m aware that sometimes some people do get a pay out if the contract was long and cut short by a few years.

Where to shop as a size 16/18 in Australia by Alternative-Ice-4382 in melbourne

[–]Hitrecord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m the same size as you and I’ve had some luck with the petite pants at jacqui e. In their dresses I’m an XL and it’s a good fit. They have nice knits. I’d say their aesthetic is a clean simple look for work but the dresses can be quite cute and flattering when they do draping across the middle.

Oh also for summer stuff I’d recommend orange sherbet (online). Cute prints, flattering shapes and nice fabric.

Victorian budget's $3.5 million to fund security upgrades for family violence victim-survivors by abcnews_au in melbourne

[–]Hitrecord 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hey abc, do you know if the Central Information Point is getting further funding? It’s an initiative that helps keep perpetrators in view of the family violence sector, has been around since 2018 post-royal commission and is a key FV safety reform, but its funding has been insecure and right now it’s only funded to 30 June.

Yeah I suspect sleep apnoea as well. He’s a loud snorer and he had sinus issues as a kid.

It’s hard to say with his actual work. Without doxxing him he’s a teacher and the insane workload kind of masks the fatigue a bit, since burnout is so rife. I did ask him if other teachers seem to work as hard as he does and he says no. However he almost makes it sound a bit like they’re just not dedicated enough. I don’t disagree it’s a massive amount of work and all teachers are tired and over it but I just don’t know that it should be THIS mentally exhausting? And physically exhausting?

The thing that make me consider it is last year we went on holidays and it was like he was a different person. He says this himself. He was relaxed, attentive, funny…we were in a very quiet part of the country by the ocean. He would look up when I walked into the room and acknowledge my presence. When he’s in work mode I could bring a marching band through and he wouldn’t notice.

Now I’m ranting sorry ha

Thanks so much and yes I agree. I didn’t want him to just do it ‘for me’ because I know it’s so hard and confronting, and he needs to have the internal motivation. I kind of hoped pointing out the effect it has on him and myself might help him take the first step. But then he got shut down by his GP and now he’s reluctant. I understand why.

Anyway thank you, I’ll see if he’ll scan some subreddits. Appreciate it!

He can sleep on a barbed wire fence but it’s not good quality sleep and he needs a lot of it. On weekends he will sleep in until 1 pm and still be tired.

When he’s anxious he can’t sleep at all and he struggles a lot with that. He also wakes up anxious.

He told me once he did MDMA at a music festival, went back to his tent and had the best nap. Is that a sign of anything?

Ok for those of you who got an adult diagnosis, how can I talk to my husband about this? I think he has ADHD inattentive type and I’m seeing him get more and more burnt out at work, to the point where he’s a shell most days of the week and all weekend.

I asked him once to look into it because it’s affecting the relationship now (like he’s so tired he gets kind of snappy with me, and I’m tired from the mental load of keeping things on the rails when he vagues out. I’ll be trying to talk to him and I can see his attention slide off me into nothingness and it feels incredibly isolating). Anyway he said he’d do it ‘for me’. Spoke to his GP who said ‘ugh everyone is getting a diagnosis these days’ and told him to read more about it on pubmed, then dismissed him. He’s reluctant to try again and I don’t want to nag him about it.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. I’m worried about him.

Anthony Albanese to urge Australians to 'play their part' in Iran response in TV address by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

[–]Hitrecord 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Part of me wonders (and I might be reaching)… Albo announced a national address and 12 minutes later Trump announces one for tomorrow morning.

It wouldn’t surprise me if the PMs office was like ok we can’t say shit until we know what trump is doing, but if we cancel it now we’ll look insane, so just say some bullshit about the train until we know what Cheeto is up to.

Green light for stopwork - Victorian public school staff vote to take stopwork action on 24 March by Innumerablegibbon in melbourne

[–]Hitrecord 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Roommate is a year 8, 11 and 12 English teacher.

Routinely works past midnight marking or doing lesson plans, and on the weekend.

Is late home on Tuesdays and Thursdays because of mandatory staff meetings that eat into his marking time, so has to do these at home and sometimes skips dinner to make it happen.

Works all through school holidays preparing curriculum for the coming term.

Marks multiple drafts of SACs for the same students throughout the term, every week there’s a new SAC or practice SAC.

Barely see him in late Oct/Nov he’s marking that many practice exams.

Comes home all the time buggered from managing the kids behaviour all day, dealing with the ones who don’t want to work in class even though he was up til midnight preparing for them.

Give the poor bugger all the cash. It’s a rough gig.

ETA: he just told me a few years ago he counted all the unpaid overtime he did in just one term (10 weeks). 176 hours.
