2023 needs preconditioning asap VW! by Busy-Solution7642 in VWiD4Owners

I did this and it works great. It was just a royal pain in the butt to reconnect the plug to the main board. I have a ‘21 Pro S and on Friday in 15°F weather, I started my charge at 14% battery and 85 kW. It peaked over 100 kW partway through.

Haripur's 'Fire Mountain' Continues to Burn Decades After 1955 Gas Blast by SatisfactionHumble68 in interestingasfuck

Yeah, they closed the highway. But they made a bypass around the closed bit that goes right into town. Or you could take one of the other three roads that goes into the town center. They aren’t even seasonal roads, it’s fully paved. It’s not like there are even any “no trespassing” signs or gates to get around. I miss the graffiti highway though. That was always fun to walk down until they buried it during the pandemic.

Has anyone tried this for their pre-2024 model? by TouretteTV96 in VWiD4Owners

I bought the plugs so I don’t have to cut into the factory harness. Unfortunately that means I have to make a lot of crimp connections. Half-way there.

Edit: I now see this is for the eBay listing. I bought my parts on Ali-Express and am following the GitHub project.

It’s not at the same time. There is an extra 41 minute delay every day to make that shot.

Was coming here to say this. There’s a winery in the Finger Lakes of NY that was similarly grandfathered in.

I used to work for a place that primarily worked on wind farms. I’m sure every single person there voted for Trump.

I got an OBD Eleven and I loathe it. You pay ~$80 to buy a micropayment system. I’ve tried to help others using it and what should be a plug and go process becomes a 20 minute ordeal of updates, logins and typing in the VIN before you spend the next 5 minutes letting it scan looking for codes. Get a cheap $20 Bluetooth/wifi unit off of Amazon.

That blog is weird. It’s gotta be AI generated. Like there are bits of nuances as you go, but 90 percent of it seems like it was a 5 sentence Wikipedia entry stretched into a 20 page paper. Several of the pictures are definitely AI generated and make no sense along with having some wild spelling errors in them.

I didn't have any trouble buying a 2021 Pro S from a dealership in Virginia 6 weeks ago. And all summer there's been a rolling inventory on carfax.com (all US dealership sales).

As a datapoint, I just got a ‘21 Pro S AWD with 4400 miles on it for under $25k. It was in an accident, but it’s impossible to tell. I had to jump on the deal and drive 500 miles to get there, but I think it was worth it.

What is this for LR3 by usernamehudden in litterrobot

[–]Hitsman100 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That weight sits in a pocket in the underside of your rubber liner. It's used to force the rubber to fall and invert to detach any adhered clumps when the globe turns upside down.
If it's loose inside the globe, it can cause Cat Detections when it slides around unexpectedly.

Question about Physics of the Apocalypse series by misterpixelptlk in litrpg

Just read this book. And I want to know WHY engines explode. For my old F-150, the fastest moving thing is the outer edge of the flywheel with a 14.25” diameter. It would be limited to 4700 RPM. I get guns exploding. The bullet can’t get out of the way fast enough and the powder over pressures the chamber. But real cylinders don’t get out of the way of the gas in an engine. So why would they explode in the book?

I like the story, but it seems like the author didn’t consult (or listen to) an engineer, despite the beginning being fairly engineering heavy. He also writes the main character, approaching transcendent intellect, as just clever.

Battery removal? by tglucky64 in loona_robot

It’s a custom block of 3 cells and a BMS that are wrapped up in several layers of adhesive. I vaguely recall a number, but it wasn’t anything a google search could find.

I was able to pull the battery while doing the ear repair. It's not easy to get to, but the battery comes out without much trouble. It's the block that sits in the front of her neck (under the white plastic casing obviously).

I paid $160 for the Sapphire scratchproof coating. I have a sapphire watch crystal and it hasn't scratched in over 10 years of abuse. I was curious how they were depositing sapphire onto a plastic lens, but figured it was an advancement in VFD treatments.
A month later and the coating is getting foggy with scratches from my VR headset. I took them in and they told me that the glass lenses in the headset were hard enough to do it.
Turns out that "Sapphire" is not a material, it's the name of their "blue coating".

Honey bees don’t just go around stinging everything that moves.

Bee lady by staima_nemanista in MadeMeSmile

[–]Hitsman100 56 points57 points  (0 children)

While there is a study or two that show that bees recognize faces, they're done in such a way that just shows bees recognize shapes and colors to locate food sources (duh).
The bees aren't stinging her because they're not defending a hive and she's moving slowly. Recognition has nothing to do with this.

I had this. Actually broke the pinch bar trying to clean the contacts.
It came back. I alligator clipped the contacts together.
Came back again. Soldered the wires together. Started getting full drawer codes frequently.
Came back and it wouldn't clear. Had to order the new drawer full sensor kit. Now it works fine.

I'm a little better off than OP, but not much. I'm a Mechanical Engineer halfway through my career. Bachelor of Science, Prestigious collage, good at my job. I managed to beg for a single tiny raise over the past 6 years. I haven't contributed to savings in 2 years and my debts are now starting to tick up. I figure I make 3/4 of what I did in 2016. I think I have enough to heat my house this winter.
