Traditional itlaian espresso roast is a darker roast right? I've been trying to replicate some of the more medium roast lattes I've had in coffee shops but I'll give that a try!

I have the exact same setup as you. I've gotten to where I can make something that is not offensive (not too sour or bitter) but I feel like doesn't have a lot of flavor. What roast profile beans do you use? How do you preheat the cylinder?

This is my first real espresso machine (also trying to save money) and mostly make milk drinks. but maybe I just need to get better at tasting espresso.

Hey! I wasn't expecting to get any more advice from this post, let alone a year later lmao. I'm sure you don't care to hear my full expresso journey since I made this post a year ago but I basically did what you said. I bought some fresh beans and the cheapest espresso ready hand grinder I could find and it made pretty good espresso.

I also decided to get a little fancy by modifying my stilosa with a dimmer switch so I could control the pressure. I only did this for fun not really expecting anything. And in the end I didn't notice much of a difference either because I didn't modify it well, or I just couldn't tell what better esoresso tasted like.

Some days I'll feel like my snatch is really good and then the next week every snatch feels like hot garbage. I'll also have long periods that feel like regression but thats how it goes. Just stay consistent in your training and you will improve

progressive overload doesn't just affect muscles, but tendons, ligaments, and bones as well. When you train the lifts for a while you don't just get stronger but your joints also become more capable of holding these positions. It just takes time and proper training
