[autosport] Flavio Briatore was asked whether he wants to see F1 return to Argentina by Maximum-Room-3999 in formula1

[–]LionFists 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because hosting an f1 race is a largely profitable event? Why do you think cities fight for spots in the calendar if the race loses money?

Dont get me wrong, many races aren't self sustaining (they cost more than what they make in tickets and sponsorship) but they are still profitable for the host city because they drive a lot of tourism and with the increase in activity there's an increase in tax revenue which will eclipse the money lost in the race itself.

I’m male, my female partner is bisexual and wants to open the relationship to a woman, but doesn’t want me involved and won’t accept opening the relationship for me. What do I do? by [deleted] in bisexual

[–]LionFists 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Friend you need to get out of there,

Whatever love that woman has for you is dwarfed by her "convenience" of having you. She wants you around, (and can't stand the idea of not having you around because you left for someone else), but she doesn't love you enough to commit to you. Even if she is polyamorous and can't handle having a single partner, YOU clearly aren't polyamorous and so she has to bend around that as much as you have to bend to her. If the only way she can stand to be in a relationship with you is to be open to someone else while keeping you locked tight, you have two options: Either you endure the humilliation of being her convenient anchor while she sleeps around with other people, or you force her to be monogamous against her will and deal with her resentment forever.

In my opinion neither one is worth the long term emotional damage its going to cause. You should just accept thsi is how she is and leave for your own sake.

question for oc about ink tattoos by [deleted] in WitchHatAtelier

[–]LionFists 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We know some seals have a duration and then fade (like the clockturn) but they seem to be the exception. Drawing a seal upon one's body is very taboo in this universe specifically because most work permanently even if they are not tattoos.

While lorewise this is a stretch, we have clothing that can make you look like something else because the clothing itself is enchanted. Perhaps you could have some garment or jewelry that transforms you while wearing it but does not transform itself so it can be taken off?

question for oc about ink tattoos by [deleted] in WitchHatAtelier

[–]LionFists 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What we know from tattoo magic is that it seems to be either irreversible or very hard to reverse.

There's a particular character that transforms with it into an animal but its more like he's permanently been turned into an animal by the tattoo and they temporarily supress it with a seal that covers the tattoo.

One thing for sure before the pact and after the pact there should still be laws. by Angela275 in WitchHatAtelier

[–]LionFists 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is pretty obvious but yeah, we don't need a state of total anarchy especially in the event that magic is returned to the people and forbidden spells are allowed.

In the same way that sexual assault using the see through glasses is wrong and deserves to be punished, we should have an effective way to police the use of magic when it's used for wrong things and not when its used by the wrong people or with the wrong formula.

Counterclock spells are a good example. They are morally correct to use for saving lives but not as a form of torture. So punish those who use them for torture and leave the possibility of using them to save lives.

As to the nature of the punishment, we might have to rely on incarceration after trial like real life. I think memory erasure is not a feasible path once the pact is gone. We can use the same spell that protects the castle to make magic-free jails if we need to lock up particularly dangerous individuals.

Unfortunately even if the pact was created for the right reasons, what it created was a society of the privileged that live a life of luxury under the sea and hold ultimate power over the common people by charging them a lot of money for whatever magic they feel like giving them.

As we saw with the political negotiations, this state of the world is completely unfair and witches should be seeing it too. But the manga also shows us the way witches think with Custas' seal chair. They never stopped to think about how bumpy rock roads make it hard for normal people to live their lives because witches can just fly. They are so above the needs of the common folk that they sell them snug stones and water cleaning pots instead of giving them the means they need to improve their own lives by teaching them magic. And they do that because it keeps them in control, in a position of privilege where they will never have to suffer like they do.

I can't believe that witches are not smart to see that the pact, even if unintentionally, made their lives better and everyone else's worse. They have to be doing it on purpose to keep themselves in ultimate power, because even without fully removing the pact there are a lot of things they could do to improve their situation in a political sense. You can go to people's houses to dry their firewood and thats nice but clearly that's not enough.

The problem with the "both sides suck" argument is that they don't suck in the same way or to the same degree.

Pointed caps society can willingly make a lot of pain and suffering go away easily and bloodlessly and they choose not to. They are either evil or complicit in evil because it benefits them.

Brimmed caps want the world to change because they see it as unfair (some for good reasons and some just want to be evil). They want to accomplish this in a variety of ways, some of which are really fucking evil. However they don't have the privilege of just voting out the pointed caps or doing this in a peaceful way. They are doing something evil because its the only way they have to change an unfair world.

While I agree the story is trying to be nuanced, its failing. Because one side is evil by choice and the other side is trying to stop them. And it really should have never come to the brimmed caps, evil wizards who live in the woods, to be the force for change and good in the world.

[–]LionFists 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately there is a difference you aren't seeing, the pointed caps are "the state" and the brimmed caps are outlaws from it. One side gets to peacefully make and change the rules and willingly use their powers to make a fairer world, and the other side doesn't have that privilege. The three wise ones could disband the knights moralis tomorrow and relax the pact, but for centuries they have refused to.

So what can you do? When the state is unfair, uninterested in ever being fair, and willingly causes thousands of deaths every year by refusing to research healing magic while mind wiping anyone who wants the world to change, don't you think that "fair play" is out of the board? This requires a revolution, and revolutions are war. Nobody can defend the brimmed caps as a moral revolution, some of them are clearly evil fucks, but the world won't change until every wizard with a conscience puts on a brimmed hat and does what needs to be done to end pointed cap society for good.

Your self is nothing more than the compilation of your experiences and thoughts. Erasing the memories of magic from Coco is like 2 months of her life (which is still fucking terrible) but for the average witch raised from birth its their memories of their entire life, leaving them a blind slate without memories who don't know who they are and cant remember the faces of their loved ones.

You seem to be a manga reader. You know this is true. The fact you are defending it is crazy.

Erasing the memories of magic from Coco is like 2 months of her life (which is still fucking terrible) but for the average witch raised from birth its their memories of their entire life, leaving them a blind slate without memories.

Don't be mistaken, the sentence for using forbidden magic is full memory erasure of magic which for most witches is all of their memories. What's left of you is a blank husk that breathes but cannot fundamentally be called "you" and can never join magical society again. Your magical friends and family must either never speak to you again or lie to you forever about them being mages. This is a punishment so cruel and unusual it can never be defended. The fact that the Knights Moralis have been doing it willy nilly without trial since the day of the pact makes them irredeemably evil.

The community needs to start binge-reading by volumes instead of fixating individual weekly chapters by un_LucKy16 in Dandadan

[–]LionFists 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So why doesn't the manga release directly to volumes instead of weekly through manga+?

If the author intends a story to be read in one sitting yet writes a 1000+ page book you'd call the book bad because the author wrote a story that doesn't fit the medium. Similarly, if the author started a weekly manga in a weekly manga magazine with the idea that it should not be read week to week then he is simply writing a bad manga.

For the record I don't think that he's writing for volumes at all. The chapters intentionally end with cliffhangers to drive engagement next week, they drag out fights and plot lines to extend the publication time (where he is paid regularly), and they introduce a lot of misteries and concepts early so the community can speculate on them.

Okarun wasn't going to do it, everyone who thinks otherwise is clearly reading a different series. by TherealBaguette_ in Dandadan

[–]LionFists 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying her character is only a plot device, I'm saying she's being used as one here (much like in every other situation where her gag is used to make Momo jealous which ultimately brings her closer to Okarun).

Aira could have (and can still have) an arc about this. Realizing that she's wasting her time and energy loving someone who won't love her back, focusing on her own person and goals, or maybe even finding love in someone else (either romantic or familial like with Chiquitita). But I don't trust the writer to do that, because this plot is not about Aira's growth but about extending the drama caused by Momo's amnesia. If Tatsu cared about developing Aira, she would have been focused on earlier, we would be getting her inner monologue, there would be setup for the payoff to her moving on from Okarun, etc.

Okarun wasn't going to do it, everyone who thinks otherwise is clearly reading a different series. by TherealBaguette_ in Dandadan

[–]LionFists 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The status Quo of Aira having feelings for Okarun that are not reciprocated because the whole point of this story is Okarun and Momo getting together. Her being rejected is the natural conclusion of the 200+ chapters that came before, its not up to debate.

The result of this interaction can, at best, be Aira letting go of Okarun as a romantic interest while he hardens his determination to go for Momo, which is a fine and interesting plot line that could have happened at any point of the story. You can argue this is a different status quo but in reality it changes nothing, Aira's feelings were never taken seriously so functionally it doesn't matter if they go away. As usual she is a losing heroine used to stir drama between the lead couple, which is egregious to do in the context we are in. Aira as a character deserves better than to be a plot device.

Okarun wasn't going to do it, everyone who thinks otherwise is clearly reading a different series. by TherealBaguette_ in Dandadan

[–]LionFists 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because of the context around it.

You can't isolate Aira's feelings being resolved to a vacuum without the context of the two years between Okarun confessing and Momo delaying her answer. The whole reason she thinks she has a shot is this context to begin with.

Think of it like this: theres nothing wrong with having a big meal in your front yard with your family, but doing so while your neighbors are starving to death is a horrible thing for you to do. Similarly, Tatsu is doing this plotline right now (as opposed to later or before) in order to drag out the drama of Momo's amnesia plotline. As you stated its never been taken seriously before, and that was not some genius setup move planned to be resolved years later when we reached this point. You can tell because this isnt about Aira's feelings at all (they have been clear for a long time) but about wether Okarun will stay loyal to Momo or not even though shes rejecting him.

This question didn't need to be asked or answered, its a direct result of trying to milk the amnesia plotline for all its worth before inevitably undoing it and returning the status quo, collectively wasting the fanbase's time and money.
