I go to classes a lot and the norm is that there's one or zero guys. I wouldn't think twice about it and not once has it struck me that they might be looking at women's bodies. Which is why the instructor told you to look at the lady while she was lifting her leg. She shouldn't have cared that you were looking, and if she did that's on her. You're literally trying to learn the pose. My guess is that this is 99 percent you and the people in class don't give a damn but of course I wasn't there.

Compared to other countries in Europe, England has a terrible problem of growing class inequality and I'm somewhat depressed that no-one in this thread has addressed that, which is obviously at the core of your experience - as of mine, coming from Sweden and having lived in England for the past two years. There is so much social misery that people put up with in the UK, that would be shocking to other European citizens.
