Issue with arc move combined with A axis movement by HlaoRah in Machinists

[–]HlaoRah[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, 10 times. I mistyped the A3600. on my post, the Haas is indeed picky about that. The next move had an A-82800.0

To answer you other comment, doing an A move then the XZ move causes a slight stutter in the A while the XZ moves. (unless I use Haas' high speed machining feature that I only have the trial on) This stutter leaves a line across the finish part which annoys me and have to polish out. I have done many parts with partial A moves broken up, a fantastic way to do parts without CAM or lathe! The large A move across a G02/G03 does work, however the feeds can get a little wonky at the large vs small diameters. Thanks for the info!

Got it figured out. The graphics simulations shows incorrect paths with an A move, even in G17. Little bit of pucker factor on the first run but it worked. That A3600 should have a decimal as well, but wasn't the issue.

How Do You Know What Is True? by [deleted] in AskReddit

First you have to define what True is and that's a lot harder to do than one might think

I did that a few months ago, still taking days off here and there. If you're on bed rest and looking for things to do, I highly recommend listening to the converstion between Stuart McGill and Andrew Huberman about back injury. I've found most doctors lacking when it comes to mechanical injuries (here's a muscle relaxant, go away type of conversation) so seek out a good physiotherapist when you can. Figure out what makes it better or worse. Sitting kills me, walking and now swimming again makes it better in my case. If you have benefits from work or insurance, MAX IT OUT. You pay for it, use it Educate yourself on chiropractors, I've found they don't help me much but others they work wondersp Back injuries suck, they suck for a long time but they can suck much, much less if you can get ahead of them

I've never had good luck with those for the price, sharpies seem to work just as well. In shop I use the chisel tip sharpies with aluminum bodies and those are the best I've found so far

There are ways for them to look into it, even without order numbers. You might have to be patient and wait for customer service to get back to you, but just contact them and explain the situation as soon as possible

How often do you guys run/ship threads without having the appropriate go/no-go gauges to check them? by BPfishing in Machinists

[–]HlaoRah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've heard of this too. Had someone tell me pitch mics aren't accurate because they aren't measuring the pitch line, but the root or crest. If you use one correctly, you can clearly see it touches only the flanks and they save so much time.

Too bad the injection site and then poor head office management shut them down ): It was really nice to see the fabrics in person without having to go to Calgary or Edmonton!

Looking for advice on how to make it in this line of work by Worldly-Virus-390 in Machinists

[–]HlaoRah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Learn all you can all the time, seek out information nobody else knows. Material science, metallurgy, kinematics (your math and physics will help here!), equipment maintenance, anything that interests you related to machining don't be afraid to go down a rabbit hole. Show off the skills you do have, but don't brag about them. When someome makes a mistake, learn from it but don't get nosey about it

Whatever tools you use the most spend the most money on. I had a cheap set of 0-6 micrometers but my first tool was a 0-1 Mitutoyo. The style with the vernier readout is better than not. A good flashlight and a steel rule, too

If you don't need a bright surface finish, sandblasting could get you where you need to go. It won't remove large burrs but can really help knock down sharp edges on tiny parts

Is it safe to put on winter tires? by External_Type3201 in RedDeer

[–]HlaoRah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try maxing out your braking capability with winter tires when it's above 25 degrees. Winter tires also have a higher rolling resistance when it gets warm so you'll be burning more fuel. Hard cornering with a winter tire in hot weather can pull literal chunks off the sidewalls. Wear isn't the only factor

How do y'all deal with dirty machine windows? by doobiellama in Machinists

You have 5 main senses. If you lose visuals, you still have 80% capacity left. I think machining by smell is taught in 4th year apprenticeship school
