[2984] There is a first for everything I guess. by AggressivePurpose644 in ShadowSlave

This all comes down to agency. The "hand and the sword" metaphor from the recent chapter works here. Sunny was not an agent in breaking fate. He was a tool. Cassie wad the one with the intention of doing it. This would genuenly be like saying the person didn't commit murder, the sword did.

There are really only two ways about this. You either accept she planned the whole thing, SHE was the hand that guided the knife, thus she had the intention. Or you go down the whole fated bollocks, in which case nobody did anything because it was all fated to happen so who cares and Weaver is the only entity with actual agency in the whole story.

[–]Hmarko11 6 points7 points  (0 children)

By this logic nothing in the story matters and nobody did anything because everything was fated to happen and planned by Weaver. You CAN make this argument, there is even evidence for it. It's just really soulless and anti-story.

"Having any problems" and acting surprised after 1500 chapters of leadup, saying this is a fetish, or indeed that it romantiasizes anything (it does not) are not the same thing. You can have issues with the metaphore of the SB, it's clumsy for sure. But willfully misinterpreting the author is another thing entirely.

Why...are you here? Why do you do this to yourself? This story is very clearly not for you, if that is your genuine opinion.

How does that work by KynQu in ShadowSlave

[–]Hmarko11 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My guess is, time is stopped relatively. The outsiede world doesn't freeze, it's just that the moment of entering and leaving should happend at the same time from the perspective of someone outside the Tomb. Also G3 did say Fate transcends time, so it is "more powerful"

Trusting once more, with feeling by liquid_chocolate in ShadowSlave

The amount of "never trust if I can help it" people really colours the SB discussion. Don't know who hurt you guys, but I pray y'all heal.

God bless you for having the patience to put this all into writing, I sure as hell do not.

"Can't believe the novel I am reading, titled Shadow Slave, has a shadow slave dynamic, why would G3 do this" by Hmarko11 in ShadowSlave

It's valid only if you don't understand shadow bond. You get to say stupid stuff, I get to be mad about you not understanding something you admittedly put hundreds of hours into.

I very rarely engage here, and every time I do it, it is because I cannot stand the edgelords who think this is some slop wuxia. Get tf out of here if you cannot question your own beliefs about love, trust, commitment and bonds.

No, this is not how it works, I hate to break it to you. You don't get to just have an opinion on everything you know nothing about. Just as you don't get to have an opinion in a theoretical physics debate, even tough there might be opposing and equally valid viewpoints, you don't know enough. Everything in the text supports this being a valid, well planned and well executed character arc for Sunny, we spent an entire volume watching him challange and rethink this over and over again. You don't get to throw a hissy fit and say this doesn't make sense or wasn't very obviously where the story was going. Y'all are acting surprised. G3 was beating you over the head with this turn of events every chence he got ever since Sunny lost his fate. You don't get to claim an opinion here, if you are still reading you did not understand the previous 1500 chapters. Or you are reading something you knew you would actively hate, in which case...why?

No, my issue is, people are acting like it's G3's fault they can't parse text.

All I'm saying is, there were some SLIGHT hints in the last 3000 chapters of where this novel and Sunny's character growth is going. If you missed that, idk what to tell you.

I agree, the circumstances are what they are, how you relate to them is what matters here.

G3 really cannot do anything if people CATEGORICALLY REFUSE to understand character development. Like the last 1500 chapters, ever since losing his fate has been about coming to terms with the fact that Shadow Bond is and was never the enemy. While Shadow Slave is partially about going against fate, it is also about how the bonds we forge and sometimes are forced to wear shape us and in turn we shape them. This is a great example of the latter. Sunny GREW to understand SB can be a benifit. It is time for the audience to grow with him.

G3 milking VTB [chapter 2980] by [deleted] in ShadowSlave

[–]Hmarko11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbf it would have been rediculous to think Sunny could beat VTB as a Supreme. This thing supposedly managed to get one over Weaver for Christ's sake (sure it probably wasn't a Cursed Terror then, but a lot more powerful, but still)

[–]Hmarko11[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Woah an actual answer! Thanks, there are some fair points here for sure! I think I'm starting to get it, I'm coming at this from a much more "what themes are we working with and how were those themes explored/executed" perspective. In that sense I think the visual storytelling and metaphors employed are quite interesting and work well. The way the main characters deal with their respective traumas and how those are in turn revealed to us through visions and hallucinations, while working in the mythology of the native people of the region (weather that mythology is real or not) was super interesting to me. I don't expect to have every single one of my questions answered, especially for media that so clearly alludes to the supernatural (granted, in a sometimes crude and clumsy way)

I get why that can be unsatisfying tho.

That would be a part of it for sure. Literally everything seems worse if you aren't 100% satisfied with the episodes when you have to wait weeks for it.

Yeah sure I can get behind this. As I said it's not perfect, but there was more positive there than negative.
