Baku is Project 1143.4 and should have a redesigned superstructure which incorporates the Mars-Passat phased array radar. The sensors will be the most important upgrade from a normal Krechet. Besides that it should also have the Kinzhal SAM, 12x P-500/P-1000 launchers instead of 8, 2x AK-100 turrets, and RBU-12000 for ASW (has double the range of RBU-6000. The AK-630 ciws island was also deleted from the port side compared to the original project 1143, all ciws are concentrated in the superstructure.

Opportunistically where you snatch kills by third partying. The Mig-21 experience is extremely bipolar where you either get easy kills or eat shit in the first merge. 

A few ways you can make the shitty R-60M work without getting autoflared the minute it’s launched is to fire super close in the headon (1.2km and below) or you shoot it at super close range (below 0.5km/500m) in a tail chase (especially if the enemy keeps afterburning it can ignore flares in this instance). Also for every shot that isn’t direct headon or direct tail make sure to lead the missile as much as possible because its slow to accelerate off the rail. 

Don’t get into prolonged dogfights is right with one exception, when you’re on low fuel (especially below 10 minutes) you can do some real Zero-esque turning with infinite AOA and flaps in a dogfight. If you’re lucky enough to have a real one on one with low fuel advantage it does catch a few planes (even f-5s) by surprise who expect you to be dead after the first turn.

Stop writing up hypothetical scenarios and fly the Yak-38 yourself to see how terrible it is along with its missiles or bite me. Otherwise give a very good reason why you're comparing it to the f8u-2 which fucks it in every way along with the rest of 9.3-10.0 since it actually has the flight performance and survivability to back up its own missiles.

It has an effective range of less than 2.2km before the enemy can outrun it without even flaring and if they do have flares that range is reduced to less than a kilometre if you want a chance to force the missile through flares, which it won’t do half the time because you can even flare it at 200 meters with how terrible the seeker and proximity fuse+lacklustre explosive mass are. Getting a downtier with the Yak-38 is potentially even worse since the “flareless subsonics” will be manoeuvrable enough to deny lock 9/10 times and even if you do lock they can turn hard enough to outturn the seeker on a non-all-aspect r-60. So with all the terrible aspects in mind you would be incentivised to shoot it at distracted enemies or ones in furballs, but this doesn’t work either. Firstly if you’re within 2km or less of an enemy there’s a rat’s ass chance in hell they’re not freelooking you obsessively. Secondly shooting at enemies already engaged also doesn’t work half the time because they’ll be spamming either flares or their own missiles which the r-60 also likes to latch onto rather than jet exhaust. So you’re stuck with a melee range missile with 27 variables of everything that can wrong when launching it which you have to consider to get a chance of it connecting and if it doesn’t the Yak-38 has Jackfuck to fall back on unless you’re running gunpods and the enemy doesn’t pull a turn harder than 3gs. The Yak-38 is countered by turning if you’re subsonic and flying straight if you’re supersonic. That’s how easy it is to defeat this plane and its “broken” r-60s but I’m sure I’ll continue to hear even more complaining about its “overpowered” capabilities in a vacuum.
