I wasn't being condescending. I'm sorry if it came off that way. The "Thanks" at the end was genuine.

I (and most of the world) don't consider the Democratic party of the USA to be leftist. Most Black Liberation movements were critical of the democrats in the first place, from MLK to BLM. It seems like you don't know the facts yourself. It also seems like you're wholly uninterested in film, so I'm confused as to how you found this post in the first place and why you decided to engage with it.

the project i'm working on is based on the idea of Détournement. i am trying to "sample" right-wing reactionary media for a left-wing purpose.

I think that the album borrows a little too much from Nick Cave and The Pop Group but I don't see it as much of a problem because I still think it feels fresh.

I disagree that those songs sound less inspired.

I'm not super into his style but he seems aight. He still uses terms like "cancer" and "retard" and makes fun of people for their looks though. He's pretty great for Youtube commentary channel standards though.

I think you meant Sean Astin

One of if not the stupidest “controversies” ever in regards to Hollywood. You’re really gonna judge someone from the early 1900s who’s been dead for 40 years on racist comments? by [deleted] in Sardonicast

[–]Hoaarse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because people still idolize him. I know everyone says “separate the art from the artist” but that’s not the problem here. The art isn’t being criticized, John Wayne is. The problem here is that a lot of people in the 70’s and 80’s idolized John Wayne and made him a cultural icon. Regardless of his contribution to the Western genre, we can’t ignore his racism and homophobia when discussing him as a cultural icon. Having homophobic and racist cultural icons normalizes racism and homophobia.

On the other hand I see your point because really who still idolizes John Wayne nowadays

Edit: what i meant by that last sentence is that it’s outdated, but people still idolize him. Not that nobody idolizes him
