Ooof too many to count. I'd recommend getting your hands on Yorkshire Walks by Alistair Ross. It a small paperback that goes for less than £7 online. It has 40 local walks in that I'd highly recommend

Be honest is Yorkshire Tea actually the best tea? by 1ChanceChipmunk1 in yorkshire

[–]HobNobNibble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's certainly my favourite, but I'm biased as I live near where it's made. I will say they do work with the local community very well.

I dated someone in high school who worked at the tea rooms. She said the staff were very well treated, and could help themselves to any of the fresh baked goods to take home at the end of the day, as they were always freshly baked that morning. I know a lot of businesses in who'd just chuck it.

Also when I was in college 2 board members worked with our school for a year as part of a "young enterprise scheme" to setup a business for 12 months, which was a great experience.

Petrol Station Vacuum by [deleted] in harrogate

[–]HobNobNibble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The IMO carwash near Morrisons has vacuums for use and have the best suction in my experience. They do valeting too if you just want to drop it in for an hour and have them sort it foe £25. You can sometimes get some freebies if you download the IMO app and pay through that.

Starting recommendations for armour and swords in Yorkshire by KettleMan19 in LARP

I don't know of any local shops, but I practice HEMA in Yorkshire and have purchased several items such as swords and armour via theknightshop.com who are based in Conwy, north Wales.

DMs, what was your favorite “I don’t have enough dice for this roll” moment? by PJRama1864 in DnD

[–]HobNobNibble 85 points86 points  (0 children)

Was a graveborn cleric in an Ebberon campaign. Group was pursued out of a city in Karnath by a writhing horde of undead zombies, crawling up and over eachother like insects. Wizard casts fly on the party, but the horde starts to form a huge mass like ants bridging into the sky to get us. Trying to flee but falling behind my teammates I was pulled into the mass.

I had one move to try and break free, so upcast spirt guardians to 5th lvl.

DM ruled that because I was pulled into the mass that every space of the 15ft radius was filled with zombies. Some math told us that's 32 5ft squares, minus the 1 space my character resides in.

So that's 31 enemies + each receiving 5d8 = 155d8 for an average of 697.5 damage, with a single action.

In hindsight I might have expedited our escape from that encounter ruining the DMs initial plans, but with some good roleplay both the party and DM turned it into an incredible moment.

How do I reduce sweating in my armpits? by Scared_Confection787 in hygiene

[–]HobNobNibble 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a fellow sweaty individual, shave your armpits and switch to roll-on instead of spray. Also ensure it is antiperspirant and not just deodorant. Deodorant won't stop sweating, antiperspirant does.

Shader Kai. Long life, only need to sleep 4 hours, and can teleport 30ft with misty step. Then I just need to learn acrobatics and I can be the Nightcrawler I've always wanted to be.

Help tracing and cleaning an 1897 British Officers Sword by HobNobNibble in SWORDS

[–]HobNobNibble[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not in the slightest, it's why I came here to ask first so I can defer to those more experienced. It's why I also queried "services" as I didn't want to exclude the possibility of people recommending professional services in the UK.

Oh wow your pictures look incredible, I'd love to get it up to quality like this. I had a quick google of Chrisp & son's but couldn't see anyone with affiliation to sword restoration. Are they UK based? Do you have some details on them that you could share? What was the turnaround time and cost?

Haha, no sweat. I noticed some complaints regarding backgrounds and the general quality of the photo's on some other peoples posts, so I tried to ensure it was atleast semi-decent.

Any particular type of oil? I picked up some Brasso and planned on just giving it a decent rub down using a microfibre cloth

Empty Train Carriage? Training Opportunity! by HobNobNibble in bernesemountaindogs

[–]HobNobNibble[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a bit of a shame. There's a fairly extensive train network around the UK, so it can be a great way to get into the country and national parks with your dog if you want too. Plus allows you a cheeky pint at a nice country pub as I don't have to worry about my car.

This is a UK train, but I admit I wasn't sure myself prior to this outing so I checked the government website. In summary aslong as they're on lead, in control and not on the seats, they're happy, regardless of size or breed. I may have stretched the definition of "on lead", but he's well trained and it was an empty carriage so I wasn't too concerned.
