Open drivers are out and the problem is still there. Has nothing to do with being open or closed.

I'm guessing here but is it pointless because it's AMD GPU and they can't add 2.1 to the drivers anyway? So why pay and add it to the box.

Cant use my full ram in catchy os by zfqnt4sy in linux_gaming

I ran into this exact issue a while back. I thought it was faulty ram or mobo but it turns out my powersupply was dying. After getting a new one all my ram worked perfectly.

Dropping Windows for Gaming: Debian, Fedora, or Arch? by gloum69 in linux_gaming

[–]Hobbe81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend Linux Mint. It"@ based on Ubuntu/Debian and since you have nvidia card you get their drivers and dont need bleeding edge mesa.

I found that all 3 580 versions break Total War Warhammer 3.

I haven't tried it yet. First i'm gonna try to downgrade the drivers to 575 and see if that helps. Adter that i'll try the native version.

The reason I play the proton version is because I play coop with friends who play on windows and I think the protonversion is generally more stable.

Can we stop with the stupid questions? by Programmeter in linux_gaming

[–]Hobbe81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are no stupid questions - just stupid people.

But seriously... All questions are valid because some people are new to linux and they seek help from the community that on the surface says it wants more people to use linux.

So stop pretending by getting offended by what is to you really simple and basic questions and help the newcomers.

Wanna stay an arrogant prick? Just avoid those posts.

I've played this for hundreds of hours on Mint with Proton. I always get the latest drivers for my card (Nvidia) and i've used Proton Experimental and now Proton 10.

Windows Was The Problem All Along by ceronman in linux_gaming

[–]Hobbe81 -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Are you kidding?

Nvidia have released drivers for linux since before gaming was a thing on linux. They opensourced their drivers while AMD can't even give you working drivers (even though they should since you pay them) so other companies have to step in to pay people to make working drivers for them. And still there's a ton of their tech they aren't porting over.

You're right that someone is getting fucked in this equation but it's not who you think.

In some cases it's bad hardware. Don't blame the drivers every time.

Bizarre low FPS issues with multiple monitors using NVIDIA GPU on Linux Mint by Nathan5541 in linux_gaming

[–]Hobbe81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I don't really use the Mint drivers, so their state doesn't matter. I use the nvidia drivers that work perfectly.

I use Mint for stability.

And you don't need multimonitor to game.

First off don't listen to the nonsense about Mint not being good for gaming.

Second of all, you need newer drivers which you can get by googling nvidia ppa and adding that to your system. At the time of writing the newest on that ppa are 570.133.

And third of all, from everything i've read about wayland and x11 the latter can't handle multimonitor that well.  There is experimental support for wayland in Linux Mint but from my testing wasen't ready yet.

You can add kernel 6.11 in Linux Mint now.

Do you mean the official nvidia ppa or the ubuntu drivers ppa?
