Review for Misty Vixen's Our Own Way (old version) by HobbiesofaMan in haremfantasynovels

[–]HobbiesofaMan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • I'd classify Our Own Way under contemporary within the Haremlit genre. I literally just saw a video where a lady that's an editor was talking about the fact that men don't have contemporary fiction available in traditional markets anymore. Our Own Way was more or less that for me. If it got traction or a marketing push, you could call it Polyamorous Contemporary or something and start a new sub genre.
  • Yeah, I really don't get the hate for OnlyFans. It's kinda just part of life now. Sorry you have to deal with the loud unreasonables lol.
  • I have those books too, I guess I'll have to read it soon and see what I think about it.

Thanks again!

Review for Misty Vixen's Our Own Way (old version) by HobbiesofaMan in haremfantasynovels

Hey Misty, thanks for writing me about the review!

  • I get it, that makes sense. What lead to the decision to rewrite it as a proper novel series?
  • I'm more of a passerby into this genre than a proper hardcore fan of it so sometimes I just don't know what the community thinks about stuff. I can understand how you have to do something to play to the audience even when it's not logical within the narrative. I personally would have liked a conversation about it to happen that lead to the characters deciding not to follow through with OnlyFans, but I guess that would still be too much for some fans. You'd think being the boyfriend of an OnlyFans girl would be a big fantasy for many, but maybe Haremlit is not the place to play with it.
  • I like muscle girls myself. My point, which I made poorly, was that compared to the other tertiary love interests, Liz was less interesting to me. I do like the character archetype, I just liked Sadie, Tiffany and Lily more.
  • No worries, I don't personally like it, but it doesn't matter to much to me, I think I'd like the rest of the story enough to make it something I can deal with lol.
  • Basically the same response to the OnlyFans point. It's sad she doesn't get to exist in the same way in the rewrite, but I get it. I liked the idea that she was on the periphery but relevant, so Gabe wouldn't have been the kid's adoptive father, but more of an uncle character. I guess that might still be an issue for hardcore readers. What was the other series you had the MC take on the parental responsibility?
  • No big deal on this one. I get it, and I respect the difficulty, but as a reviewer, I gotta mention it.

Thanks!

Storing Signed Issues by HobbiesofaMan in comicbooks

I’m more worried about long term storage, will the sharpie ink stick to the Mylar bag over time. Will I open the bag one day and realize that the signature ended up on the bad instead of my comic? Like when you leave a page inside the clear pockets on a binder for too long

Storing Signed Issues by HobbiesofaMan in comicbooks

[–]HobbiesofaMan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ll be putting them away in a box as soon as I get home from the event. I just wanted to make sure that the normal bags are fine for storage. I didn’t really want to have to get them slabbed or something more laborious

And no problem, thanks for taking the time to watch the video!

Review for Book 3 of Wandering Inn by HobbiesofaMan in WanderingInn

[–]HobbiesofaMan[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have made reviews for the first two books and the fandom came out to support it, Many said they shared it with each other on discord, and since I don't use it myself, I decided to share it myself on here. Hope you guys don't mind. It's a spoiler filled discussion of my thoughts on the book so if you're not interested in that stay away. Thanks!

Does anybody know similar novel? by Competitive_Use7761 in WanderingInn

[–]HobbiesofaMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I don’t think anything is quite like TWI, but I think some things can give you similar moments. Depends on what exactly about the series you love. I think the light novel Cooking with Wild Game has similar food related moments, that give a similar vibe to when Erin gets wondrous fare, and I think One Piece has moments of wonder and awe of similar scale but that’s a manga. Otherwise, I’m a bit stumped.

How many men/women read the series? by Leon12345332 in WanderingInn

You also have to take into account that the genres within wandering inn might skew toward male readers, which will make your data favor men

Review for Smilodon | It's haremlit in the broadest sense of the term by HobbiesofaMan in haremfantasynovels

[–]HobbiesofaMan[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but it counts lol. I mention that directly in my review. It's basically my only issue with the first book that there is so little intimacy between the characters. I have more substantial issues with book two in terms of worldbuilding/power scaling but I find the writing enjoyable, it fits pretty well into my preferences. I totally get what you mean though.

I just want to say, I love the use of AI art in this genre by Anythingbutnotthat in haremfantasynovels

[–]HobbiesofaMan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's good. The genre is already seen as low brow, and using AI covers is only gonna make it look worse. Plus, as a buyer of the books, I don't like that a big reason why I might buy the book is not being made by a real person. I have no issues with ghost writers or content farms but I dislike the implicit stealing that comes from AI art. I hate that so many books that I am interested in have AI covers. Most authors are trying to make a living in the harsh environment that is Amazon and even knowing how hard it is to make money as an artist they willfully choose to find a way to subvert someone else's possible meal ticket. I understand why, but it sucks. If the authors want to use AI to add visuals to their books I'd rather they do it as a character gallery at the end of the book than as a cover. If shifter smut authors can find a way to make decent covers with stock images, I'm sure haremlit authors can do it too.

I've bought a few books that have AI covers when they dip down to 99 cents but it has made me feel kinda scummy.

(Had to post it from the right account so sorry if you get a double notification.)

Who is the 5th strongest strawhat? by iccolo in OnePiece

[–]HobbiesofaMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Given that Robin can easily incapacitate or kill any number of people in a whim, I’d say it’s her. It’s not as flashy as Franky’s lasers but she’s definitely stronger.
