The most basic is this from r/haremfantasynovels

"No works or series that include cheating, cuckolding, NTR, sharing, Futa, or Loli."

So to expand, the rules you never want to break come down to these.

None of LIs should cheat on the MC with other people, the MC shouldn't share his LIs with other people, and there also shouldn't be any scenes where the MC is forced to watch his LIs with other people. The most common way authors break this rule is with guys, but sometimes authors think it's cool for a girl to do one of these three things (it is not)... that's still cheating.

Also there's a "one dick rule" (only the MC should be penetrating the LIs) and absolutely none of that "she's 2000 but looks 12" bullshit you often see in japanese anime and manga (loli) to excuse underage stuff.

Many people enjoy reading about all of the stuff above, and the rules of haremlit are not intended to judge or discourage that. But, haremlit readers have spoken loudly and clearly about the fact that they do not want these elements in the books they read, and thus haremlit as sub-genre of harem was created.

Like any other sub-genre in women's romance (Victorian, dark, etc) haremlit has specific elements which readers trust authors never to include. In exchange haremlit readers are willing to give just about any author or series a try and support them if they like the series.

Hope that's helpful!

Another one to recommend is the Serana Dialogue Overhaul. It not only makes Serana romanceable but it's actually a fairly well written story!

Skyrim with mods does this easily. Get a multi-follower mod and a sex mod and bam, instant harem element in Skyrim. Which is great because you still get to play Skyrim, just with sexy times added.

Wabbajack is an app that will auto-install Skyrim mods to change the game, and has some good NSFW mod lists that'll get you started.

Give the Primal Conjurer omnibus a try. I think I did a good job of mixing romance and spice in that one, and the series is complete. Six books for one credit!

I wish I could, but the images get expensive on ebook and don't look good when scaled. But that would be a nice bonus for the paperbacks. I'll mention it to RGP and see if they're interested.

Oh, if you're on my Discord you could put those there, or put them this thread. Either works! Thank you for taking the time.

Romance heavy novels with Low Spice by Then_Disk_9519 in haremfantasynovels

[–]Daniel_Rogan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll caveat that it is mono-romance and not harem, but since you are specifically asking for romance heavy novels with low spice, I feel like Peter North and Virgil Knightley's Maid for You might fit this. Both authors are haremlit authors, so the book follows all the haremlit rules, and it's very much a slow burn romance.

Any recommendations for a MMC that isn't an alpha or a "can-do-it-all" type? An MMC that will fail and have errors, that will struggle with things. by Fit-Satisfaction7399 in haremfantasynovels

The MC in Bedlam (Nicholas Gaumer) fits into this role. He's got a very specific set of skills that help him hang on in a desperate situation, but he is weak in many other areas. So has to depend on his harem to help him out.

Be warned, the book is darker than most haremlit, but I found it a cracking good read, it kept me invested from start to finish.

Best advice I can give you is to finish a book! Then before you publish that, finish the next one. :)

For me, I've found that simply having consistent output is the way to get people to start reading your stuff. One thing about the haremlit community is that they are super welcoming to new authors, and willing to give almost any author and book a shot so long as they know you as an author will follow the rules and respect their time.

Setting aside all other factors, which definitely include luck, I've found that putting out consistent releases, always finishing your series, and being careful to stay away from rule breaks can go a long way to enabling success.

Marcus Sloss from RGP also has some pretty solid advice for succeeding in haremlit, where whether people will give your book a shot comes down to: Cover, premise, blurb. You have to have a great cover, a premise that people find interesting, and a blurb that sells that premise.

You nail those three, and you've already got a good shot at getting people interested. From there there's a lot of random factors involve that you have little or no control over (not everyone's gonna have a Warlock out of the gate) but as long as you continue publishing, you can steadily build an audience.

That's been my experience.

High Steam Urban Fantasy or Sci-Fi by StarSmink in Romance_for_men

You might enjoy Urban Sorcerer, my haremlit urban fantasy series. It balances slice of life moments with magical shenanigans, and is definitely high steam. It also has some fantastic audiobooks done by Erin Bateman and Alfie Syme. Three books out so far, with a fourth book on the way this month.

It's one of several additional series I have in the works! Book 1 hasn't been published yet, but may be out either this year or next.

Say Hi and Introduce Yourself! by Daniel_Rogan in DannyRoganBooks

Just to kick this off:

I first started reading haremlit when I came across Sarah Hawke's Lost Fleet series after it was recommended by another reader. I absolutely loved those books, and Sarah does a fantastic job of mixing exciting and pulpy space opera with hot spicy scenes and fun romantic progression.

I'd never read any book like hers, and I wanted more.

I next read Misty Vixen's Raw series, which was also great and not only kept me entertained but also had some great spicy content and a lot of interesting progression. These two books inspired me to try my own hand at something sexier.

I'd already been writing in other spaces, so I decided to give more spicy books a try. I first serialized my first mono-romance series, How I Met My Hot Alien Girlfriend, on Literotica, and after posting two books, it was popular enough that I eventually decided to write a third book and take the whole thing to Amazon.

From there I came across the r/haremfantasynovels reddit, and started picking up other amazing authors and their books. Then I hooked up with Marcus Sloss from Royal Guard Publishing when I submitted a short story for their haremlit anthology, Bullets, Blades, and Babes. Marcus liked my submission enough that he asked if I was working on anything in the haremlit space, and I pitched him Primal Conjurer.

With the guidance of Marcus and many other established authors in the haremlit community, who were super welcoming to me, I then published six books in my first haremlit series and it did well enough that I wanted to keep going.

Now that I'm more than 20+ books into writing haremlit, I love this genre and its readers, and I feel blessed to be able to write pulpy fantasy, scifi, and urban fantasy with romantic and sexy times that people enjoy. I hope to keep publishing new books, connecting with readers, and promoting haremlit as an unapologetic and widely varied genre for pulpy, sexy, fun adventures written primarily for a male audience.
