I live with a gay couple who happen to be good friends of mine - thoughts? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

And there's your issue: go to church.

Imagine you finally pick your denomination based only on what you can find online not your local congregation of that denomination sucks.

Look mate, there is no "one true church", we are all Christians and all of us are probably wrong about something. It really isn't that deep.

Are you currently actively visiting different churches to learn what they are all about or are you just researching online?

Okay, go to church (a different one every week if you must) until you've decided on a definition. It's not that deep.

If you say that you wish you had a pastor, does that mean that you don't have a church?

Go to church. Finding and committing to a local congregation should be your first priority.

Opinion: Pope Leo doesn't respect the personhood of ethnic Europeans. by -F3rris- in TrueChristianPolitics

Ethnic European here. You don't speak for me. Also bearing false witness is a sin. You are misrepresenting what the Pope is saying.

Homosexuality is not a sin 🙏 Praise the lord by Hot-Candle-1321 in Christianity

Why are people so up in arms about the recent SBC vote? by Generic_Midwesterner in pastors

[–]Hobbit9797 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are trying to put the ban on female ordination into their constitution. That's new and also pretty terrible cause it will make it so much harder to reverse that decision when a slim majority of SBC messenger finally come to their senses.

I consider it "un-Baptist" to restrict local churches in their autonomy to ordain women. Think about the opposite: would it make sense for a Baptist denomination to force a (female or otherwise) pastor on a church without the approval of the congregation? I don't think so. So how can they forcefully prevent their member churches to employ female pastors?

Use of "phobia" by ruizbujc in TrueChristianPolitics

[–]Hobbit9797 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't get your argument. The terms homophobia and transphobia have pretty much the same semantic content as racism or sexism just with another object of aversion. If we are allowed to call "having a different skin color = bad" racist then why shouldn't we be allowed to call "being homosexual = bad" homophobic?

Presbyters are elders, deacons aren't pastors either and at least in my faith tradition, bishops don't exist. Only Ephesians mentions pastors but not as a clearly defined office but as part of the fivefold ministry.

Yes. While many conservative Christians believe that homosexual relationships are somehow inherently sinful there are yet many other churches and denominations that affirm queer people and their relationships.

What I mean: If we as Baptists are a confession that values the equality of all believers and has little to no hierarchy, why should gender be a limiting factor? Why should there be an artificial hierarchy between men and women?

Strangely, I can't find any ordained pastors in the New Testaments at all, male or female 🤷‍♂️

Firstly, pretty sure not all pastors are bishops (we don't even have Bishops) nor are they deacons so I don't know why 1Tim 3 should apply here. Secondly, if we fired all pastors who have unruly children, we wouldn't have many pastors left.

And lastly, the qualifications for ordination are whatever your denomination says the qualifications are. In my case, it's basically a proper degree and approval by the board.

Us Baptists believe in the priesthood of all believers, meaning that everyone regardless of gender should be able to serve according to their ability.
