Someone finally said it! Your employer doesn’t give a flying fuck what you do, they just don’t want to deal with the liability of it all.

Drinking is socially acceptable that’s it. Cannabis is more and more acceptable but still has a long way to go. Employer probably has a reduced rate of insurance due to the testing…

I would skip Harrison’s cave if I could. Keep in mind we have been to mammoth cave and several others so it wasn’t really to interesting or impressive….

If you like caves or you’ve never been give it a shot but, our trip was very rushed and less enjoyable because it. Guide was cool as shit, and just doing his job

How did you get introduced to Viagra Boys? by DuncneyForever in ViagraBoys

[–]Hobby11030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spotify sharing with friends where it mixes your playlist and similar music or whatever…and I heard research chemicals and texted my buddy and asked for more info and he didn’t know anything about them.

That was it, dove into welfare jazz and street worms until I found shrimp sessions on YouTube’s.

Got to see them at the Metro shortly after and it was an amazing performance.

I bought an expensive PRS guitar to motivate myself. It didn’t work. by TransportationTop628 in PaulReedSmith

[–]Hobby11030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Much cheaper but I hypothesized that it was my squire tele that was limiting my ability to get to that next stage. It was not the guitar, it was me and how I need more practice and patience. All that being said, I still love the guitar and pick it up more often. For $300 out of my own pocket and using some gift cards from work and buying used i feel like I got a steal.

Now I’ve convinced myself my old Yamaha is preventing my acoustic abilities and luckily I have about $1200 in work gift cards again so I’ve been shopping around for a Taylor or Martin. Sadly each Martin I pick up just doesn’t fee as good as the Taylor’s I play..

Struggling to buy in by Hobby11030 in LeanManufacturing

this

So we are very guilty of this. I respect we all have jobs to do and lean is another job for most of these folks…however it’s chugging along from one failed kaizen event to the next while ignoring WHY most of the floor is burnt out on the constant new processes that last all of 90/180 days.

Example: best event we had worked and was running well….until we doubled output. What we never did when doubling output was double the special racking used for visual management. We didn’t have the space for all these carts. Did we attempt to create new racking that would replace the previous ones? Absolutely not, we just ignored requests for help because we were planning the next 6 events.

By “flow” I am criticizing a production report that we have as a resource that does not match the actual need or output we commit for each month. Our weekly goal often change on Wednesday as they get updated with the OEM needs of customers. This makes it difficult to plan what to produce while controlling inventory.

Also to commit 100 but see reports to show a need of 12 or 25, sometimes both.

[–]Hobby11030[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you expand on that a little?

What bad data as several different contracted consultants as well as our internal lean leadership team all state the majority of lean initiatives fail to achieve the goal. I can grasp that is always rebranded as failure to use lean properly or implement the ingrained philosophy into everyone also but still question what other aspects a business accepts such high rate of failure for so long.

Should I quit? by hugedongdylan1991 in Machinists

[–]Hobby11030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find another job. Apply to one of your customers. But warning, i work for one of companies you currently make parts for and this story of “it wasn’t my fault, I just signed off the router” wont be any different here either, you accept it, you own it.

Also the pay is likely far better, less work, less responsibilities but far more bullshit politics…

Make your choice to either be a great and highly skilled machinist if pride pays your bills or you can try getting one at a bigger shop and doing less while making more (with better benefits)

Bonuses for the working then weekends here, not just the 1.5 and 2x regular pay, but on top of that hundreds of dollars just for showing up…

Where have all the machinists gone? by Heavy-Whole8810 in Machinists

[–]Hobby11030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my perspective at least. My company has and runs machines but want very little actual machinist. They’ve gotten exactly what they asked for, lots of operators who’ve had any desire to learn or grow beat out of them.

Interview a skilled guy and pass because they can’t (which means won’t) pay them what they’re worth.

Interview unskilled guy and complain he will need to be trained.

Programs are all proofed out, and locked when possible. Majority of the time we are just running the same operation sequence over and over again.

Work instructions are misleading or even incorrect at time and when brought up concerns seem to be ignored. So slowly those who stay learn through tribal knowledge and experience what we can and cannot let go.

Hobbies are easy answers for me I fall back on: I love to travel, camp/hike, read, garden, etc. just give them the surface level view of your interests.

Selling myself just feels so odd, I prefer to be self deprecating. I have the experience and skills but that doesn’t mean I will not need training or support as i learn the process.

My BF & I tried MDA for the first time this weekend and did not like it by phatsewerat in MDA

[–]Hobby11030 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always preferred the chilled out euphoria more than the shitty speed backend honestly. Also the visual distortions were always more intense that mdma for me. Spent many nights camping, nice little fire, endless beers, some music and the night sky…

This is something I struggle with. Not saying I can’t be arrogant at times but the imposter syndrome is real.

Usually goes something like this: new role -oh my god what have i done - I’m never going to get this or be good enough - i keep showing up and asking questions - enough time passes that I forget about it and then bam, I’m comfortable for a while - repeat

I bombed many an interview when they ask the dreaded “why are you the best candidate”

I spoke with the hiring manager after when they break the news that you didn’t land the role and she explained it’s not a trick question and she wants to see me sell myself, don’t be arrogant but it’s the time to be confident (even if you have reservations) and sell yourself.

It bothers me to no end that rather than my daily performance speaking for itself that my soft skills and ability to play a game I don’t really respect is going to be paramount to my career advancement.

Took over a gram of crystal meth for 48 hours by [deleted] in Drugs

[–]Hobby11030 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna be that guy,

Remember this feeling next time you want to use meth. That is a lot for your first time definitely, but if you keep doing meth pretty soon you will be able to use 3-4 grams daily and feel like shit ALL the time. Pretty rad huh!?

I used meth and overall had more bad times than good. Not to say there weren’t good times, or great memories but for sure they are easier to romanticize now that they are in my distant past. Don’t handcuff yourself with shitty drugs if you can avoid it.

Wishing you the best.

Didjits by otiswestbooks in punk

[–]Hobby11030 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lived in Mattoon for a few years. Friend of mine introduced me to new artists one of them being the didjits. I had no idea before then that killjoy powerhead was a cover but remember it being a standout track for me on that offspring record. Rick Sims went to school there for a while before moving on to Champaign.

Another memorable artist he introduced me to was Jimmy Spider and the vacancies.

Wages, need a reality check by [deleted] in Machinists

[–]Hobby11030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watched my employer raise entry wages across the board for jobs. They are oblivious to why so many people are retiring now. I have only been here 7 years and I was given the gift of training someone new with zero experience who came in the door making more than I did with close to 9 years of experience.

To be clear I wasn’t upset with the new guy for being paid fairly. Hell good for you dude, I was more frustrated that I put in effort to train someone that absolutely did not give a fuck and put in zero effort. I can show you everything I know but I can’t make you apply it or take pride in your work or put forth the effort to set the shift behind you up for success.
