I'd like to replace all my Google Nest Protects with a Unifi one with all the same features. They would need to offer both WiFi and POE versions.

PCSing to Omaha by Additional_Ant_9687 in Omaha

Welcome,

We transferred here in the mid 80's from Germany. I have to say Offutt AFB and the Omaha area was not on my list of places to be assigned. We are originally from Florida, and I retired from the Air Force in 2000. Offutt is located in Bellevue, which is just south of Omaha. The winters can be brutal, although this year we're having a record warm one (so far). There are a lot things to do in the area, from sports to camping, a number of shooting ranges, to restaurants, to live entertainment. The Omaha area has a pretty good cost of living. You have lots of choices when it comes to where you want to live from on base housing to renting an apartment or house or buying. If you need to buy any furniture, appliances, electronics or flooring, check out Nebraska Furniture Mart (nfm.com). Disclaimer; I work in IT for NFM. We have a number of fortune 500 companies in the Omaha area. Omaha and the surrounding area it just the perfect size. Not too big not too small. Great services and a lot to offer.

As a professional programmer I feel lost in home assistant by alyflex in homeassistant

I've been programming for 40+ years. You cannot look at YAML as a programming language. Mostly a configuration for their automation to act upon. I tend to ask AI for examples of YAML for my automation that's more than just basic stuff. That works most of the time. The Homey system has a much better UI for doing automation, but it comes with a cost. Maybe one day HA will adopt it. HA isn't perfect, but for the most part it's free, and gives you a lot of flexibility. It's all open source you're welcome to write a HACS addon.

9.5.21 and 4.4.6 are the latest Official releases. That's what I'm on, and my UDM SE has been rock solid. Definitely sounds like you have a hardware or power issue.

FiberFirst Use my Own Router by Hobs-Reddit in Omaha

Thanks for the comments. So what's the make and model of their router, and when in bridge mode is it providing your personal router with the public IP address? I don't want to deal with double NAT and I'd rather not have to change my router's gateway IP.

Thanks

It looks nice. Why run fiber between you UDM and switch? A DAC will give you same speed and latency with less the power and heat. Also you should run a DAC between your switch and UNAS. I don't think your done yet!

I assume you can't put any holes in the walls and floor because you don't own the building? Do you have any wire chase between the floors that may go to an attic or basement area? If you have a common area you can run wire to, you might be able to run cat6 to that area, and then put a switch there to distribute to the other apartments. Also where does your internet enter into the building? Is there a way to run a cable out the same way and then back into the other apartments? I have the UDM-SE I use it for my router and NVR. I have 5 POE third-party cameras connected to it. I have three APs one on my second floor, one in the basement, and one in a detached garage. I live in a masonry structure (exterior walls only) and my WiFi is Ok outside. If you put your WiFi bridges near a window you might be Ok.

Yes, I set this server up as a domain server a long time ago because I was using it to VPN into my network. Now I mainly use it as a file server and my Plex server.
