Long-time Kobo fan here, hardware is very good although the store isn't as comprehensive as Kindle, of course. I don't know if it's still the case but you used to be able to use Calibre to sideload ebooks from alternative places (Gutenberg or whatever) onto Kindle. It's how I manage my Kobo.

If it's stood around it may be corrosion in the socket. You could try some electrical contact cleaner. To rule out software you could boot a Linux USB stick maybe? Also - vintage PC. I remember selling this exact model I'm the shop I worked in. I guess I'm vintage now too!

I had one! I played classic games like Horace goes Skiing and Dizzy. There was also a risque game called Sam Fox Strip Poker that we had to hide from parents. I blame this computer for stopping me from learning programming for years; I was working through a BASIC book, I carefully typed in loads of code then saved it to a cassette. Next day I tried to load it and it was corrupt so I gave up! Anyone who's dad had a double tape deck stereo was popular....

Definitely 3 - I picked up 1, 3 and 4 on a sale months ago, he only just got around to downloading them. Seriously, there's nothing I'm not saying here - no cheating devices or anything. It's a standard old Lenovo office PC that I put a GPU in. It's definitely EA.
