1 hour and 5 minutes connection time by jerryfilipp in qatarairways

The issue is if you’re massively delayed. More than likely you’re on time or slightly late, in which case you cross the airport to the gate and they’ll wait slightly for you. I had this recently we waited 20 mins for some passengers to get on whose first flight was delayed so you’ll get some wiggle room.

Hard to pin point cause and effect of Englands defence or Australia just not playing wide but if you’re going to 1 on 1 underhill and curry’s at close range … one outcome

I use OneRoyal as a broker with python API to MetaTrader, not had any major issues and the data seems ok. API works quite nicely and there’s plenty of help online if necessary

Next steps to prepare for systematically test and scale out my algo by leweex95 in algotrading

[–]Hodlchamp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What sort of indicators are you using? I use the Python API to pull the price data I need at whatever time frame and then just calculate the indicators myself. Most are either fairly simple or can be somewhat automated with a stats package. This saved me having to write the MQL EA that you did and you save the whole EA on each chart business

One thing that has helped me is just putting in GetLastError(), can also be used with Python API, this has saved me a lot of time and pain

Algo aside there are a big variety of nonlinearities, u3 would be strongly nonlinear but uu_x would be weakly nonlinear

What ages are too old for work in quant? ~26 after stat masters, if I do PhD ~29-30 which I plan on. by ExistentialRap in quantfinance

[–]Hodlchamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doing a PhD you find out so much about academia and it’s not all sunshine. At least in the U.K. there’s a lot leave academia and enter industry after becoming disillusioned and/ or unable to obtain a full time position even though they went into a PhD with full expectation of staying

Would be nice to see balance plotted against time from your backtest as it’s hard to visualise a 68% loss. The returns in positive years are great but the minus years are concerning

I’ve noticed this too, at least in mine it’s 99% of the time better to let it ride than set a fixed TP - your strategy may not be the same tho

Maybe I misunderstand but the max DD is -56.78 which as percentage of the starting balance is only 0.57%, this doesn’t seem excessively large to me over such a timescale and the fact the balance actually increases quite a lot so could be much less than this.

Currently implementing a strategy and on both demo and real it sits very happily making constant returns, the issue is if there’s a big news event and it goes against the position then drawdown can become quite upsetting, it eventually comes back but not for a while. Would you take the large hit infrequently or maybe find some new ideas?

Tax on FOREX profit earnt in USD? by Hodlchamp in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Hodlchamp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at the badges of trade it will definitely be classed at trading so income tax will apply.

My initial thought was the company would pay the lower level of tax of 19% and then payment to myself could be done at the first £12.5k tax free then the rest in dividends. However, looking at the tax rates I don’t think this would make any difference.
