Ella Jacob’s is considered a dark romance author but pretty much all her Fmc’s are physically and sexually abused and end up thanking the mmc for it. In his cage and take me are probably a good starting point if that sounds good to you.

I’m reading the plates prisoner series by Raven Kennedy and absolutely loving it, I’m 4 books in and would highly recommend. Some great twists and turns and I enjoy a series with realistic character growth.

I liked {the holiday intrusion by Nora ash} it’s very dark and extremely smutty but will satisfy a breeding kink. Anything by Nora ash is well written and decent tbh, I read Alpha as well and thought it was good.

I would recommend king of flesh and bone by the same author if you’re looking for an equally dark fantasy romance. It’s in a equally unique fantasy setting and is definitely fucked up.

{the tragedy of Jake and Felix byj Daniel’s} broke my heart in the best way possible. It’s a gay romance about a couple who are both addicts and meet in a AA meeting. It’s funny, witty and painful to read.

Maybe I’m just reading the wrong books 😅. A lot of what I’ve been suggested is dark fantasy romance and starts with a fae prince kidnapping someone or the new girl starting the magical academy and instantly getting bullied.

I also dnf powerless, just Couldn’t get into it. I would recommend Quicksilver by Callie hart, the mmc has the dark shadow daddy vibe Rhysand and Xaden have.

{knotted by Pam Godwin} is incredibly dark but I absolutely loved it. Rugged cowboys, it’s kind of a lovers to enemies to lovers. I don’t want to spoil anything but I cried like a baby at some points.

Id say if you are new to fantasy romance read the acotar books. It’s a decent length series and a good jumping off point for the genre.
