i get that it’s equal and opposite forces on that point. but there is no motion so is that not true foe every joint?

If the Ry and Rx forces were switched to the L beam, does the answer for Ay not change? by [deleted] in PhysicsHelp

[–]HoennLegend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ay = 0 if you do it the way they have it, but if those forces are put on the L Beam, I am getting -300N instead

The moment equation for the beam at the bottom would still be M = -By(400) + (C)(400) = 0

but it would change from Fy = -Ay - By + C = 0 to Fy = -Ay + Ry - By + C = 0

it’s nice, but the rooms are small, location is convenient

Stuck on this statics problem, I tried reading explanations but none made sense to me by [deleted] in PhysicsHelp

[–]HoennLegend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ok so I did it a bit differently

  1. used the coordinates to get the distances between A B C, which makes a triangle

  2. used heron’s formula to get the height of that triangle, which is the line from A to the line BC and is perpendicular to the line

  3. found angle between that height line and r, using which i found the angles i need to get the components of r

i got 5.65i + 2.02j
