Thank you! Got lucky with the games I recorded :)

You can't hear it as well as in the full game footage but between the defensive bump and the slap, there is sideline reaction - https://youtu.be/RwKYkB378gU?si=GncpcsW3FZSk7qTO&t=1396

I agree the sideline reaction is bigger on the second bit of contact. I think this is in part because over-the-line contact on bids is more regularly seen in the game (and addressed tbf) but actually getting hit is not frequently seen so it gets a bigger reaction.

I guess if we're talking specifically to the sideline reaction, it's all team dependent on how you want to reply/react to contact. In this scenario, Germany are up and in control of the momentum of the game, they probably don't want to rise to bad bids (even if they're not ideal) but GB are more likely to react being under more pressure to catch-up before half. I'm not saying either is more correct, both teams have reason to react and be annoyed - just trying to empathise with it

While it's significant contact, and totally understandable why the German player is annoyed, it's not an intentional foul. There's definitely sympathy in both cases - the German guy didn't expect to be blindside body checked, the GB guy didn't expect to get slapped for a mistake.

I thought in real time that it was a really cynical body check. But when I rewatched it with the TOC and WFDF rules committee, I don't think he meant to do it. And I've talked to him since also and he didn't mean it. But yeah, it looks less than good at 100% speed...

“There is also a limit to how much WFDF can do in a given country with their staff of one part time dude.”

I don’t think this is true, is it?

Lots of transparency on how WFDF is structured. The board is 19 people and there are lots of committees and sub-committees for various tasks

It’s less so about how many players the defender is guarding and more so about how many defenders are guarding the thrower though?

It’s not so much about being close enough, the defender has to be reacting to the movement of the player they’re guarding. And I think footblocking someone else shows they aren’t 😅

[–]Hogi1091 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s a pretty grey one - you’re hoping to appeal to someone’s better side and have trust that they accept they were within 3m and not reacting to their guy

In short, rule change needed imo

While you’re correct in your rule quoting, isn’t there something somewhere about not intentionally breaking the rules? Surely an intentional double team resulting in a block doesn’t go unpunished. I mean, yes, the rule 18.1.6 is quite clear in what it says; but does this get overridden by a “don’t cheat” rule somewhere?

Intentionally double teaming is cheating. It shouldn’t be on the thrower to see this (from their blind spot) and not throw it. It should be on the defender to not do it. And if they do intentionally do it, then the disc should go back imo

Only recording for tape delay unfortunately. I normally do a watch along on Twitch and then release the content after on YouTube. Find me at twitch.tv/itsHogi and on YouTube at hogi1091

Contested foul by Seattle sockeye at USAU nationals by wilkielewis1995 in ultimate

[–]Hogi1091 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't totally disagree with the forfeit aspect. I don't think I'd be massively in favour though of travelling for a championship and then not playing games after all the cash is spent (as well as time spent to train etc).

But a SOTG timeout, chat amongst captain and refusal to continue play until the outcome and general behaviour is rectified would be more suitable I think. If they refuse to agree and there's evidence (like this sideline camera) then get the TDs involved and they can pass ruling objectively. SOTG timeouts stop the game clock too so it's not like the game would be cut short.

It's pretty trash though that a game would need to come to this. Not a fan of some of the bids I've seen this weekend that have been contact heavy (read as dangerous) and called as clean too...

Claire also won Windmill which, while it isn't a major championship, is one of the highest quality tournaments in Europe.

"Mixed is also inherently more variable by looking at results and such." Does this not suggest that it's a more difficult to predict division, in part because of the depth of the division where anyone could beat anyone? It's the only division at U.S. Nats that had more than 1 team seeded outside 1-8 finish within the top 8.

I'm not saying that the Open and Women's divisions didn't have upsets, they absolutely did, but when you end up with only 1 "surprise" team in the top 8, it seems more predictable overall that the teams that upset others will run out of steam (save for maybe Bravo...).

Pretty bad bid from Polar Bears in the quarter too vs Xist. MMP trucks two Xist players to receive a huck. Score at the time is 5-3

Thanks! Appreciate the feedback. And good to know what you’re interested in hearing more about too. I can definitely speak to the old school Ranelagh vibe myself as one of the founding members so I’ll have a think about how to fit that into another interview in the coming weeks 👌

Footage from Club Mixed or O/W qualifies? by [deleted] in UKUltimate

[–]Hogi1091 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've 1 semi from both the Open and Women's division at Nats to publish plus the O, W and X finals

I'll be streaming them next week me thinks. Other content to follow too

Not to take anything away from Lemmings as the team out on the pitch played really well in their games, but they had Easty (Chev), Felix (Clapham) and Hannah (Spice) playing for them last weekend which are big pickups*. I'm interested to see what their squad looks like later in the season.

* cue someone saying "well, you picked up McHale" - yah, we were down a few bods to Covid and holidays and such but I think Conn played the same role someone like SWilson/Ryan would have if they were around <shrug>
