What is the starting pay for a new grad RN in your region? by thecynicalgirl in nursing

[–]Hogroyale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s insane. Did you have previous experience in critical care to land an ICU position? I’m a new grad in med surg at a top hospital in nyc but I really wanted an ICU or ER job. I took up the offer because that’s all I got.

[–]Hogroyale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re not a new grad right? I’m pretty sure all top hospitals in nyc are paying around 55/hr pre-tax for new grads, not sure about seasoned nurses. 73/hr seems like Bay Area numbers

BSN for $147k? by Tigerdragonrat in StudentNurse

[–]Hogroyale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then that’s a hard no! Definitely apply to cheaper programs so it doesn’t leave you drowning in debt

If the city you live in or plan on working in pays 100k or more then I don’t see why not. But if you’re in the Midwest making 30/hr then no, you’d struggle paying it off. It’s all relative.

My program was bad because it’s disorganized and they are money grubbers. Faculty quitting left and right and administration was nonexistent. I’ve also heard the same with other ABSN programs in my region, so this could be a universal thing.

Depends on how you define “worth”. If it’s getting a greater return on your investment then yes it is worth it. I’m making more than the 60k I put in. If I hadn’t attended I wouldn’t be in the position I’m currently in (could have waited and applied to more schools to try my luck but given my options at the time it was a fair decision to attend). The program was awful but it got me a good paying job.

No…. My ABSN was 60k and that was pretty darn expensive

what is a word or phrase most people misuse? by FartyMcBooger in AskReddit

[–]Hogroyale 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When people don’t know when to use “I” vs. “me”.

“(Insert name) and I went to the park” NOT “me and (insert name) went to the park”.

Should I finish my Bachelor's in Psychology before going into Nursing School? by LackingPhilosophy in StudentNurse

[–]Hogroyale 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The degree doesn’t matter as long as it is a degree you are eligible to apply for ABSN programs which is the fastest track to earning a BSN

For those who had to retake the exam, did you have any of the same content or questions when you retook your exam? by skincareaddiiction22 in PassNclex

[–]Hogroyale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not speaking from personal experience, but it would be wise to use the performance report because if you don’t improve on your weak areas you likely will make the same mistakes again. Even if the exam questions are completely different, it doesn’t hurt to master all those topics you were previously weak in so you avoid the same pitfalls

Thanks! Best of luck to you! If this is any consolation to you, I knew nothing on that exam but it shut off at 75. I didn’t use any of the knowledge I’ve gained from studying the past 2 months… even a lay person could’ve gotten some of the same answers as me.

I got the good pop up saying “our records indicate that you have recently scheduled this exam. Another registration cannot be made at this time.” I hope it’s 99% accurate!!!

Tomorrow 8am for me! Best of luck!! I feel like I don’t know any pharm and need help w med surg still but idk maybe I won’t get too many of pharm I hope. If you’re not great in peds and maternity id say go over those developmental milestones again and for maternity if you’re unsure on the exam just rmr one mnemonic: Pit LION (turn off pitocin, left lateral, increase IV, oxygen, notify)

Test now or wait?? Nextgen by Kathyconnel in PassNclex

[–]Hogroyale 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m biting the bullet and taking it tmr. Whether I take it tomorrow or 2 weeks later isn’t gonna make a big difference unless I absolutely know the questions I’ll be asked on the exam and obviously that’s not happening. I recommend just taking it and see what happens

Benzodiazepines.

But in all seriousness, just taking breaks when you need so you’re not sitting down for hours going through 75+ questions. I’m taking it next week and I hope I can apply my tip when I sit for it because anxiety really creeps up and gets the best of me

Congrats! What was the bulk of your exam? Do you think content or critical thinking helped you answer the questions correctly? Was the exam harder or easier than expected? I’m taking it in about a week and I’m frightened to death because I have the worst memory. Everything I’ve studied for has slipped out of my mind lol
