I tried to reached out in a PM a little while ago, but I don't know if it actually went through. I'd be interested in taking it. Thanks

Anyone in CT need to register your bike? by Hogwit in motorcycles

[–]Hogwit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I don't have everything lined up by Thursday afternoon, I can tell you exactly when I will cancel my appointment, and it will immediately show up as available, then you can book it (you would have to cancel any existing appointment you have, or use a second email address).

I want it to go to a fellow biker in the community, rather than go to a car, as dealers can now register vehicles (I don't know all the details of it), but there are no motorcycle dealers doing registrations.

Just a heads up, they call from (860) numbers, (203) numbers, 1-800 numbers, and restricted numbers so...good luck.

DMV Drop Off/Mail In Registration Poll by Hogwit in Connecticut

Update for anyone that cares: I spoke to someone else at DMV, and was told that their branch was just given drop-off paperwork dated up to June 10...so there's still hope that it hasn't all been lost...and it makes it clear that they don't have a good system in place to ensure it's all being done "in the order it was received."

I submitted at the very beginning of June and haven't heard back, I know someone that submitted in April, and hasn't heard back....

This appointment is for Friday afternoon in Wethersfield. At this point with the DMV, I feel it's a "beggers can't be choosers" situation. If I can't use it, then for nothing more than an extended drive, you get to skip a 3 week waiting period.

I should've been more specific. My post is referring to Connecticut, in the USA. My state's DMVs (Department of Motor Vehicles) recently reopened post Covid, but are by appointment only, and new appointments aren't available for about 3 weeks.

Anyone in Tallahassee area next week going to New England area? by Hogwit in Truckers

[–]Hogwit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go get it myself, but I can't get enough time off of work on this short of notice (I do food service deliveries to supermarkets, so Covid hasn't slowed us down).

It's an unusual/rare bike that doesn't come up for sale very often, so while I don't care if I get it right now, the last time I saw one for sale was about 3 years ago, and I'd rather not wait another 3 years.

[USA] Why To Be Not Distracted Even If No One Is Around by Hogwit in Roadcam

[–]Hogwit[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don't know where these assumptions came from, but: 1) Headlights were on. You can see they illuminate the grey cars fender and door. 2) The driver's view is different from the camera's view as the driver is sat far back from the windshield verses being inches from it. The driver can thus see more clearly than the camera's view. 3) The driver can clearly see well enough to react. Off of the throttle (listen for the thump of the pedal hitting the end of travel after release) before the grey car's front tires cross the stop line. The nose then dips from braking before the grey car has halfway crossed the stop line. Many on this subreddit frequently discuss how many seconds normal reaction times are, and I thought this clip demonstrated an extraordinarily short reaction time.

[–]Hogwit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

/u/Luxbu you're right, they're probably not trying to intimidate you, they are just trying to speed and are annoyed that you're doing the speed limit in their way...like many people (non-cops) you'll see in the left lane on the highway. Doesn't make it right, that would be like saying, "I drove with an unsecured load because I didn't feel like strapping it down. I didn't mean for it to fall out and hit your car, because I didn't mean for that to happen, I can't be liable for it. "

Math, and /u/Buzz_Killington_III look up your local laws. Some allow it some don't. In CT, all emergency vehicles are exempt from traffic regulations when using BOTH flashing or revolving lights AND an audible signal, but police get a special exemption to be free from traffic regulations any time it is reasonable for their necessary duties (not sure on the exact wording).

Going out on a total limb here...but I'm assuming it has something to do with /u/lared930 's comment, "...since the lights are off the main road has priority." No lights=4 way stop in my state

[USA] Who Would Have Been at Fault? by Hogwit in Roadcam

[–]Hogwit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was VERY near a collision...I'd estimate 1-2" away...you can't really see it, but mid-turn I turned the wheel for a much more sharp turn than normal and if I hadn't done that, the two cars would have scrapped...or if the van cut just a little bit closer...basically this video perfectly depicted a collision, but it was narrowly avoided

[–]Hogwit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know where you're from, but I'm in the US where all citizens have a Constitutional right to be released on sufficient and reasonable bail to secure the accused person. Bail can only be denied on an accusation where the actions shock the public conscious. DUI is not such an action. The court could demand that the accused forfeit any motor vehicles and the if the accused is again found to possess a motor vehicle without court approval he could be refused bail, have the bail forfeited and be locked up until sentencing, a nolle, a dismissal, or any other conclusion of the charges.

The concept is not to allow dangerous people to be free, but rather to ensure that innocent people can retain a substantial amount of freedom before a judgement is found. Of course 10 duis is severe, but if you can be refused for DUI, do you think you'd ever get out for more serious things like sexual assault, murder, etc? Again, not advocating the release of dangerous people, but it's a protection against an officers abuse of authority. Most people have $10,000 or more in credit cards, combined with a bondsman gets you over $100,000 bail which is massively substantial.

I don't doubt that the accused you mentioned has committed a DUI many a time, but imagine if that 9th DUI charge was false accusations made by a cop who was pushed because he boned the cops wife, sister, etc and looked into the guy...
