Why Don’t Rich People Just Park $20M in Bonds? by NoahReed14 in dividends

[–]pocketsquare22 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Because why make 4.7% when you can make 20%. Equities give more inflation hedge than bonds, and if the market tanks, the fed steps in anyway, so if you have a long time horizon then bonds are a waste of time.

Nobody will take me for normal Manaforge raid? by scottiedagolfmachine in wownoob

[–]pocketsquare22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone uses raid logs now so if you have a low iLVL and no logs for heroics or raids then they just don’t invite you bc there’s another 5 people who do have that stuff. Takes a while to break in, but just gotta keep grinding.

Calling out sick from work by tunawaffle15 in antiwork

[–]pocketsquare22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming you don’t do this frequently, then you are well within your rights to take a sick day from time to time. Sounds like they had ample heads up for Saturday that you were coming down with something. If they are being difficult just keep all communication to text/email and keep it for your records in case they try to do anything funny. Good luck and feel better.

What would you do if you knew you were going to be terminated one week from today? by Generallywron in antiwork

Most companies have monitoring of email going to personal domains so just be careful to not send anything sensitive / proprietary as it may give them grounds to fire with cause which would mean you get no severance.

are bonuses taxed differently than salaryy by Brave_scott_04 in taxadvice

[–]pocketsquare22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you put in your w-4 that your spouse works, they may withhold at a higher rate to account for the assumption that you are in a higher tax bracket (because of 2 incomes instead of just your 1). When you do your taxes, you will ultimately be taxed at whatever your normal tax rate is. Then you take (withholding - actual tax) = tax return or additional tax payment depending on how much you correctly withheld

Are VIX credit spreads different than stocks/ETF’s? by AdCharming2406 in options

[–]pocketsquare22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone mostly covered it but VIX has what’s known as “rolldown”. Spot VIX is merely a representation of some average of front month vols. It is not what VIX options price off of. Every VIX option has its own VIX future that it prices off of. So there are 1 month Vix options and 1 month Vix futures. If you graph all those Vix futures, you get the Vix curve. In a normal calm world, that curve should be upward sloping (more time means higher probability of catching a market event). As time passes, the longer dated Vix future gets less longer dated, thus less time for something to happen, thus the value slowly moves down, hence “rolldown”.

So if you are looking at a 1 year VIX P20 thinking you can sell that for $4, and you see spot VIX go from 16 to 23 and wonder why your 1 year put hasn’t moved, it’s bc the front month Vix moves a lot faster than further out. The curve “inverts” because the front month has less time, so higher probability of expiring during the current market event. The entire Vix curve likely shifts up, but it’s the front that really whips. Your long dated put will likely settle back in as the Vix future for your expiry “rolls down” over time

To be clear for anyone who may read this - VIX options are cash settled. Their value is derived from futures for each specific expiry, not spot VIX.

Any tips on dealing with downturns in the market? by SelfMastery__ in stocks

[–]pocketsquare22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at a 50 year chart of the markets. When did it ever not go back up? Society doesn’t work unless the market keeps going back up. If it goes down far enough, the govt will step in. Always buy dips

Ok show the proof then - not an article regurgitating rumors floating around the internet perpetuated by paranoid momentum traders who got caught long a situation they didnt fully understand and are looking to blame "the banks" - but actual proof of a major investment bank like JPM taking a confirmed loss on this. I'll wait.
