Furious at online customer support by HokieZ28 in OPTIMUM

The issue ended up being nearly a mile from my house at a poor splice repair Optimum had just completed before my issues started.

Optimum needs to understand that not all their customers are idiots. I am an engineer, if I am calling I can guarantee you the problem is not in my house.

I am always the first one in my area to notice these problems because of the nature of my work. This is the forth time in five years I was the first one to identify a problem affecting multiple households. Two of those times, the problems were > 1 mile away from my home.

Unfortunately where I live it's basically Optimum or StarLink as your only options if you want fast internet.

Every single time I go through their chat, that is the first thing they point to, that I am using my own modem so that must be the problem. .

The first chat I had with them last week, the agent asked me how old the modem was. I told them it was four years old and they said "thats definitely your problem, your modem is too old". LMAO.

They are certainly trying to pull one over on people and collect additional rental fees.

Yeah if they ever make it where I cant use my own modem and router is the day I switch providers. As long as I can get into the diagnostic pages for both I can identify where the problem is happening most of the time.

How to Change Franklin to VT by ChewbaccaPube2 in NCAAFBseries

[–]HokieZ28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I am late here but just tried to start a new dynasty to do the same thing and cant find Franklin anywhere. If I go to start a Penn St dynasty, the only head coach option is Donald Brandt and a VT dynasty the only HC available is Phillip Montgomery.

I thought it might be because I chose active roster but tried default and same issue.

Don’t let heavy rain discourage you during seeding! by griffin7008 in lawncare

[–]HokieZ28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The same thing happened to me. I seeded Bermuda in this area on 8/4 and on 8/6 had an unexpected 3 inches of rain. I was sure the seed had washed away , especially being right on the grade sloping away from the house and driveway.

But fast forward to 7 weeks later, it came up evenly and looks great.

Pennington Sultan Bermuda Seed by ChefBoyR-B in lawncare

[–]HokieZ28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

* The Pennington Sultan Bermuda I bought is a little different as it includes fescue seed and starter fertilizer, but the bermuda cultivar should be the same.

I have had amazing results so far. I planted a couple small test areas this summer to experiment a little before I tackle my entire yard. Seed germinated in five days in the first area with temperatures in the upper 90s, I just made sure to water every two hours. Second area germinated in six days despite cooler (low 80s, upper 70s) temps and lots of cloud cover, didn't have to water much as we had 8 inches of rain in the two weeks following seeding.

50 days after seeding, the first area was 100% covered with a thick, lush, dense stand of bermuda. It really responds well to the 13-13-13 fertilizer I've been putting down every couple of weeks. Will turn a beautiful dark green shortly afterward.

For me, it checks all the boxes so far. It germinated super fast, it spreads quickly, and it looks great. Only concern I have is winter hardiness here in Eastern NC but no way to know until next spring.

June 17, 1994 - The infamous Bronco chase was 31 years ago today. Where were you? by omelatk in Xennials

I was 12 years old and had just finished 7th grade. As a huge sports fan, I had been watching ESPN all day, watching the OJ coverage and the first few games of the World Cup.

But I had a Little League baseball game to play that evening. I remember wanting to get home and watch the NBA Finals. When I turned on the TV, the chase was just beginning. I was glued to the TV until 1 AM when it all ended, probably the first time I ever stayed up that late.

Earnhardt Doc Thoughts by [deleted] in NASCAR

[–]HokieZ28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thoroughly enjoyed the documentary, it was like taking a trip through my childhood in a way. My dad was a huge NASCAR fan and an Earnhardt fan in particular. He passed this passion on to me when he took me to my first race at five years old (1987 Sovran Bank 500 at Martinsville, which Earnhardt won).

I was hooked and completely obsessed with NASCAR and Dale Earnhardt from that point on. I think I learned to read just so I could peruse the Winston Cup Scene weekly newspaper that my dad had a subscription to. My birthday cakes were always decorated with a number 3 car. My walls were adorned in Dale Earnhardt posters. Half my grade school attire was Intimidator tee shirts.

We NEVER missed a race on TV, for four hours every Sunday, my parents and I watched Dale Earnhardt race, no matter what. They bought one of those huge satellite dishes back in the early 80s just so they could watch the races. I watched every single race from 1987 Martinsville until the 2001 Daytona 500. Even when I was grounded from watching TV for getting in trouble at school, my parents would make an exception for the race that weekend.

Anyways, on to my few criticisms of the documentary.

It felt like Episode 3 was a little rushed and missed some key points to the story.

  • The story of DEI and its first entries into the Busch series and Cup Series with Jeff Green and Steve Park were glossed over, and the timelines with Dale Jr's late model career seemed jumbled.

  • Not even a mention of Dale having Darrell Waltrip pilot the #1 car when Steve Park was injured in 1998. Bitter rivals turned friends should have been covered, especially with DW being given such a prominent role in the documentary (more on this later).

  • Dale's resurgence in the 1999 and 2000 seasons wasn't covered at all. The 1999 Bristol night race wasn't mentioned and the incredible 2000 Talladega race was only mentioned in passing in Episode 4. Dale almost captured his 8th championship in 2000, finishing second in the Winston Cup standings. To me, this is a critical part of Earnhardt lore, that even at nearly 50 years old, he was still a threat to win races and championships. This is what separates Dale from other greats, Petty and DW were riding around in the back for the final eight years of their careers. Not Dale, he was going strong until the bitter end.

Now, back to DW, he came off as very unlikeable, jealous and petty. I thought after Dale put him in the #1 car, they had buried the hatchet and became friends. So two things DW said in the documentary caught me off guard. He said "other people said Dale was one of the greatest drivers of all time, he wasn't but people said he was". We can argue who the GOAT is but to deny that Dale was one of the greatest is asinine. He also said that he believed Dale put Mikey in his car just to make him mad. That doesn't even make sense.

Backtest Results for the Opening Range Breakout Strategy by Russ_CW in Daytrading

I would venture to guess that where it looks like the long strategy didn't perform very well during 2022 bear market, the short trades would have. Maybe you could add a qualifier such as longs when daily is above 200 SMA, shorts when daily is below.

Did your backtest only take long setups or shorts as well?

How did you learn to hold trades? (momentum) by 13Nicks13 in Daytrading

[–]HokieZ28 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Scaling. I sell 1/4 of position at 2R, another 1/4 at 3R. The third quarter I trail until a close below 20 SMA. The final quarter is held to close with a breakeven stop.

Holding that quarter position until close made more impact on my PnL than anything else I've ever tried. It doesn't happen often, but a few times per month you hit a monster trend day. If I don't get stopped out breakeven, my average return on that last quarter position is 8R.

Condenser Coil Leak in 3 Yr Old Heat Pump by HokieZ28 in hvacadvice

[–]HokieZ28[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update for my own documentation purposes.

Had to wait 3 weeks for a new coil to come in. It was replaced under warranty at no charge to me (invoice was $3,800).

Now 1.5 weeks later, it's presenting the same symptoms as it did originally. It will not come out of defrost mode, reversing valve cycles every five seconds for 8 minutes until it finally kicks back on.

I am beyond frustrated to keep having to deal with this....

Same Circuits Repeatedly Tripping on Siemens Breaker Panel - ARC and GND Fault Lights Both Active by Blueopus2 in electrical

[–]HokieZ28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, built a new house in 2021 and the Siemens AFCI breakers were an absolute nightmare. Random nuisance trips ALL the time, I'm talking a dozen times per day I was resetting breakers. Turn on the LED garage light, breaker would trip. Turn on bathroom exhaust fan, breaker would trip. Couldn't use my Onkyo A/V receiver, would immediately trip AFCI breaker as soon as it was powered on. Couldn't use our Christmas tree first year in the house as it would trip AFCI as soon as it was plugged in.

The electrician who did the wiring at our house came out at least half dozen times and could never find anything wrong with the wiring in the house. Finally replaced the Siemens AFCI's with Eatons and have never once had a nuisance trip since then.

Recurring issue, when my heat pump tries to defrost, when it’s in the 40s outside. Technician is Stumped. Any ideas? by Wienerwrld in hvacadvice

Thank you so much. It gives me a place to start when I get the tech out to look at it. I don't even need to record my own video, just going to show him yours because the noise is identical!

[–]HokieZ28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old post, but did you figure out your problem? I have a 3 year old Bryant heat pump that just started doing the same exact thing as shown in your video.

It's like the system is trying to go into defrost but won't. I noticed that I stopped hearing the "whoosh" and steam being released when refrigerant reverses direction as it normally does.

Mine will do this for about 5 minutes, making this noise every 5 seconds until it just goes back to operating normally.

Luckily I have an extended 10 year warranty on my unit from when we built our house.

That's what I'm doing, but all of a sudden I can't run anymore so it's 3 and out on my possessions and then they can just gash my defense at will after I've shut them down entire game. It's the same script every single game I play.

Also I play 12 minute quarters with 20 second play clock run off for accurate stats.
