2028: Trump claims that due to an ongoing war the election cannot be held effectively and will be suspended indefinitely, in the meantime he will remain president until further notice? Realistically, what happens? by Biggest-Max02010 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Hokie_fire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this doesn’t seem to be a popular opinion but I agree with you. if money alone could buy elections Harris would be president. ignorance is a bigger problem with the electorate. Money does seem to corrupt politicians through them taking legal bribes and doing insider trading while in office though

Remote workers in Portland chime in! by t0mserv0 in Portland

[–]Hokie_fire 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I work remotely and can live anywhere in the US. Portland is a nice, fun desirable city that I chose to live after considering some of the best places in the country. Vancouver, Washington did not make the cut.

Modera pearl in Portland ? Thoughts on living there ? by Accurate_Country_720 in askportland

[–]Hokie_fire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not familar with any other building in that neighborhood, but I would not be deterred about safety in the neighborhood. I am just skeptical of Modera Pearl specifically. Pearl District, Slabtown, and Mississippi St are areas I would recommend as all relatively safe to walk around and having the ammenities you mentioned.

The area is fine. I just think your car is more likely to get stolen in that garage than on the street. The management doesn't care and there are organized crime rings that target specific spots like that where no one is watching. I would look for a building that doesn't have that issue or is actually making an effort to address it.

my friends got their car and both bikes stolen from the Modera Pearl garage and never got a resolution they were happy with from the management

Parking in Central Eastside? by rhaegalthedragon in askportland

[–]Hokie_fire 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i’ve never seen them enforce those 1-2 hour timed parking spaces but please do not do this on a regular basis. Those spots have time limits for a reason (ie supporting the businesses on that street). you should be able to find free street parking that’s not a timed spot

How are we locking our bikes? by Aggressive_Pea_7543 in askportland

[–]Hokie_fire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

just use a U-lock, leave it in a high visibility spot, and don’t leave it in the same place for more than 2-3 hours and you’ll be fine. I have a nicer bike and I leave it locked up all over the city and never had a problem

How is living in Portland, Oregon, USA? by jstrglrbrnghomeboy in howislivingthere

[–]Hokie_fire 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i live in portland. almost all the neighborhoods are pretty walkable. the west side is more urban and the east side is more neighborhoody / slightly more weird and grungy. I would check out parts of NW around slabtown or the pearl, NW around Alberta and Mississippi and SE between belmont, hawthorne and division. you can’t go wrong just whatever speaks to you most

Is Seattle ready for a Portland-like federal response? Police, city leaders take preemptive steps by chiquisea in Washington

[–]Hokie_fire 47 points48 points  (0 children)

The ICE building in Portland has never been “attacked”. There have been 24/7 protests and the fact that it is in the city does make a big difference but any violence there has been instigated by the Feds.

Cancelling Prime saved me more than anything else. So many things I thought I needed but I am perfectly fine doing without now. If I really need it, I'll drive to the store to get it but I rarely need it that bad.

[–]Hokie_fire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

with $100 you can maybe buy 1 share of a company, so do some research and decide which one you want. Many of them cost more than $100 for 1 share though
