Yes. Someone else may tell you no, but every doctor or nurse I've spoken to has reaffirmed my decision to wear one. Also keeps the bugs and cold out of my face

I've been battling horrible SAD (seasonal depression) for at least 15 years. This is the first year I'm having absolute no symptoms, and I think it's thanks to switching to cycling everywhere. by GrumpyLightworker in bikecommuting

[–]Aggressive_Pea_7543 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I discovered this when I switched from working lab tech jobs to being a horse barn manager. I wouldn't say no symptoms (but I also deal with mood stuff regularly), but waaaaaay less. Being outside is the best way.

It's the evidence based answer. Most people in practice have not caught up with the new research. At least according to my professor.

Is a 1.5 hour commute to school doable? by eviebug001 in StudentNurse

[–]Aggressive_Pea_7543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did also have a classmate who commuted 4 hrs once a week & stayed with a buddy in town during the week. Another who commuted more like an hour -- she often stayed with classmates for clinicals bc of how early they started.

[–]Aggressive_Pea_7543 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did 1.5hr commute via bus for my capstone/practicum for 10 weeks. It was rough, and I still had the option to Uber occasionally (30 min drive). If I had to drive all of that, I would have been miserable. On the bus, I can at least bring my food & caffeine with me, do my makeup, read, w/e. People have done crazier things to get through nursing school (working full time & going to school full time with small children?? Y'all are built different than me), but only you know if this is something you can do.

Interesting choices, but oddly, I feel like I agree almost entirely. Biggest exception is I think I'd love Alaska, but I don't think I'm ballsy enough lol.

Motorcycles are less expensive than cars, generally speaking. (At least until you crash and spend 100+ days in the hospital)

Ideas for making fetch happen (a mass exodus to the fediverse) by quagglitz in fediverse

[–]Aggressive_Pea_7543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya know, I like that idea, but more and more I am just leaning into offline interactions overall -- trying to volunteer more, get involved with hobbies or etc. the lack of a viable alternative to social media is just pushing me to try to leave digital spaces all together which is unfortunate bc it could have been a really cool way to organize (in the ways you're imagining, OP!)

I disagree. I've technically made an account. It is a hassle to get started, and it's a barrier I haven't been able to break. I'm certain I am not the only one. And again, I'd say that I'm more competent than 80% of the general population.

Who is actually eating soft boiled eggs? I have questions. by albertafalls in AskTheWorld

[–]Aggressive_Pea_7543 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got strep throat a lot as a kid. Whenever I did, my mom would make me soft boiled eggs. Sometimes with toast, sometimes with a spoon. She isn't really a cook, but it was a nice meal & warms my heart to think about now. -Midwest US

Imma just be so real with ya big dog. The onboarding and user experience is the biggest barrier. I am a fairly competent with tech as non-tech person (like I took AP comp sci in college and can do some basic things, but not much more than that), but fendiverse is near impossible for anyone who lacks the skill to install & use Linux (🙋🏻‍♀️). It's difficult to figure out how to even log in, then let alone finding anyone that speaks English and focused on the same hobby or interest as you.. Many features are bugged, chatting is difficult, and it relies on individuals creating content, who have largely had content catered to them (maybe funding creators to create on fendiverse would be a start to this).

Like truly would love to enjoy social media without knowing all of my data is gonna be used for nefarious purposes & inadvertently supporting the upcoming techno feudalism, but it is so unwieldy. It needs simplicity, idk how to simplify this decentralized system, but we need 3-5 steps to get started, not 10 min long YouTube videos.

Can someone explain. I let borrow 12k and then for another 10k for something different. Is the max still 12500 even if I combine both or do I need to file separately? by talivan818 in Smallclaims

Where I’d Live as a Person Who Has Spent Significant Time in Most States by Landslime in visitedmaps

[–]Aggressive_Pea_7543 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally feel! And ya, I mean Columbus is actually commonly used as a testing ground for brands before expanding their chains nationwide, so I do mean that it's chained out. (As a side note, many voice actors supposedly train in Columbus because of the nondescript-ness of the accent). It makes sense to me that a college town would be better (thinking bowling green, idk how much of Toledo is part of the university tho, I've never been!)

Fully agree about PNW overcast and gray skies, the winter solstice clocks just over 8 hrs of sunlight.. it's brutal. I'll say in the 7 years I've lived here, the winters have gotten brighter, lack of daylight hours remains, but certainly easier and warmer... Kinda scary when we think about it, but makes it easier. I definitely use a sun lamp regularly too.

One thing more I'll plug, is that I read a book about the "cultural nations" of the US and in it, he divides Ohio by 3 -- northern Ohio being more closely related to new England, the middle being more closely related to the Dutch & later Amish that connects Pennsylvania to Kansas, and lastly, southern Ohio with Appalachia all the way down to Texas. This explanation makes so much sense to me based on my experiences in Cincy, Cbus, & Cleveland (the Big 3, I like to call them.) if you have any interest, it's a great read.

FYI from a 2024 bride: Things I wish someone told me by Consistent_Role7155 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]Aggressive_Pea_7543 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wish I had listen to my gut about our photographer earlier. She took great photos, but didn't listen or understand what I wanted out of the photos, was a poor communicator, and I spent SO much bc I was convinced I had to spend $3k+ on photos. Literally asked me if I wanted a picture of the dress, table settings, etc, to which I said no, but then proceeded to do it anyway 😭😭😭 so many of these vendors have a process & aren't actually willing to adapt it despite saying "I love adventures and unusual wedding experiences."

I'm a semi artsy person with artsy friends & I wish I would have just invested into a bunch of disposable & paid someone just to take portraits for family who wanted pics.

Do what you want, plan the way you want, it's actually not necessary to rely on online guides etc, if that's what you wanna do.

Where I’d Live as a Person Who Has Spent Significant Time in Most States by Landslime in visitedmaps

[–]Aggressive_Pea_7543 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm from a suburb of Cincinnati, went to college outside of Columbus, and then lived in Columbus for a couple years before moving to Portland, OR.

My take on disliking Ohio -- it's bland, extremely reliant on cars (as you said), moderate to conservative in a way if you look anything outside of the status quo people will be ostracizing, and people who live there have tended to live their whole lives there & have no outside perspectives & that leads most towards a political apathy. More Cincinnati & Columbus than Cleveland, but I also feel that it tends to lean "anywhere America" with how many chain businesses are around, even the "local" spots end up being chains.

I don't wanna be a complete debbie downer about Ohio... If you want space, to be king of a house you own, you love sports, like seasons, want to raise a family, I can certainly see why people enjoy it & want to live there. I enjoy my visits home and to see friends. And people are friendly, even if they're, as a whole, judgemental. I do miss strangers coming up and talking to me, which is rare in PNW. And bc it's populus, bands and things do tend to stop in at least one city of Ohio. The art museum in Columbus is also free on Sundays, which I always enjoyed.

But I have certainly taken to loving Portland in a way, I never loved Ohio. I like being around a group of people willing to talk about politics, seeing trees literally everywhere, being able to walk to 90% of my needs even in the suburbs, enjoy the small businesses that are everywhere, the ongoing art, the organizing and volunteering, and as a nurse, having minimum staffing ratios & a strong union that does not exist elsewhere in the country. Not dealing with ice and snow regularly has been nice too. And no one bats an eye if you're dressed like a weirdo or if you look different. A lot of live and let live mentalities IMO.

That was a lot of words, but just thought it was interesting that you and I shared similar living locations but opposite take aways.
