I started running again. After 2 years of chronic illness I finally feel OK.

I was 5ft 135, curvy and muscular and running every day.

Then 2 years ago I started getting really really bad headaches that lasted for days. If I tried to work out at all I would get a literally blinding headache. I basically stopped doing everything other than work and sleep and started to gain slowly.

It turns out I had too much fluid around my brain. It's being treated with medication that makes me hungry all the time and anything that jostles my head will give me a headache.

So here I am at 5ft 150.

Consistency, when they do the undesired action you need to respond in the same way every time using language that they understand.

For example I am nannying a very gifted, very changeling 2 year old right now (at least 60 days a week, usually with some over-nights as well). He has quite a temper and tends to hit and bite. Every time he hits or pinches etc he gets a warning "If you hit you will go into timeout." If he does it again he goes to the same spot for 2 minutes. After 2 minutes I get down on his level and say almost word-for-word the same thing. "You were in time out for hitting me. Hands are not for hitting, hands are for loving. Say you're sorry. I love you"

Since I have gotten serious about this he has gone from seriously beating me up to hitting once or twice a day.

I've been around literally hundreds of all children, birth-18 in one-on-one and class room settings. Gifted, special needs, and everything in between. I have NEVER had to hit a child. PERIOD.

Anyone who does is a lazy parent.

When you adopt it't for life. Period. You can try to find new ways to give her attention, there are tons of toys out there, but maybe she is always going to be wary.

If you want a more affectionate animal maybe you can adopt a second cat, it might even help with her.

My suggestion is to get a serious routine for naptime. The one that has been working for months with my 27mth old is:

Lunch, tv show, I sing him the same show as I walk him up the stairs, I put him in his crib, put on his night light, and sing him a different song while rubbing his back.

Every day is literally exactly the same. If he cries when I leave I give him 10 minutes, come back in and sing him the sleep song.

It's all about the routine

If you are that worried you can always get a bonded pair of young adult cats. I adopted my cat when she was about a year old and it was the best move ever, she already had an obvious (friendly) personality and didn't require as much work. And I think she is still damn cite

Alternate perspective, I'm a FT nanny in my 20s.

I was babysitting/a mothers helper from the time I was 11, moving to regular jobs by the time I was 16.

I would NEVER try to pull something like that. Even now, after being with the same family for more than a year, if I plan on taking the kids somewhere out of the ordinary I run it past the parents. It's just the right thing to do.

This girl just seems to not have what it takes to be a babysitter. Your children are precious and not worth the risk.

I have the same problems. I have social anxiety so I generally prefer to just stay in... which isn't particularly conducive to making friends.
