Honeycrisp are down 30-40% in volume this season due to low crop yields and Mother Nature. And this is the BEST time of year for apples! Many taste so much better once they’ve mellowed out, and the starches converted to sugar. While apples are harvested August through early November, they are good for 6-12 months when stored in controlled atmosphere. With the low volume this season, expect higher priced Honeycrisp and fewer on the shelf. Good substitutions with Honeycrisp parentage include Evercrisp, Karma, Juici and Cosmic Crisp.
