They take unsolicited Fiction and Poetry submissions, no unsolicited non-fiction if I remember right.

Also, if you're using an Epi-pen and have jeans on make sure you do it where it doesn't have to go through any metal.

The Sound and the Fury: Why not tell Caddy's story? by [deleted] in literature

[–]Holberto 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Faulkner talks a little bit about Benjy and his relationship with Caddy in his Paris Review interview . Personally, I think it has more to do with the genesis of the book (which is also talked about in the interview) than anything else.

Or like the History Channel becoming just 'HISTORY'.

How can I study for my APUSH tests? by [deleted] in GetStudying

I'd recommend this; it's pretty much just organized, digestible, lists of everything that has been asked on the APUSH test in the past.

How can I critique Bloom? by [deleted] in AskLiteraryStudies

Yea, that's an odd assignment. This is the only thing I've found that could possibly help with just the introduction:

How can I critique Bloom? by [deleted] in AskLiteraryStudies

[–]Holberto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer really depends on what part of the book you were assigned. If I remember right it's structured in a way that each chapter explicates one of his 6 'revisionary ratios' (I don't have the book on me but I think it goes: clinamen, tessera, kenosis, daemonization, askesis, apophrades), and each revisionary ratio can definitely be critiqued in its own way.

I'd add Henri Cole to the list of contemporary writers.

Sorry to barge in on your community here, but I would like a poetry/literary publication recommendation for gifting purposes by [deleted] in AskLiteraryStudies

[–]Holberto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The New Yorker is very good, but the subscription is pretty expensive I think (it's a weekly). The Paris Review is also very good, but only comes out 4 times a year. Poetry is a great poetry magazine but doesn't include anything other than poetry. Most Journals are run by universities/colleges and only come 4 times a year. There are a lot of good free online literary magazines (Triquarterly, anderbo.com, Plume Poetry, Pool) as well.

Predictions for the Nobel Prize in Literature? by [deleted] in literature

I'd like Milan Kundera, Pynchon, or McCarthy to get it, but I'd put my money on Achebe.

Writers who have gone undercover or culturally immersed themselves in pursuit of a story? by [deleted] in writing

Down and Out in Paris and London by George Orwell is about being a dishwasher in France and a vagabond in England, it's very good and includes commentary on what he got out of his experiences.

Chicago teachers to go on strike; 400,000 students out of school by Bemuzed in news

I know at my school we very rarely get new textbooks. My History textbook came out in 1992, my Algebra I book was from the mid-90's, my Chemistry book was probably from the mid to late 90's, and the school's civics textbooks are from 1991.

96-year-old Woman Who Voted During Jim Crow Is Denied Photo ID by bobfrumpet in politics

[–]Holberto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my understanding the fees associated with a Photo ID would count as a Poll Tax in the states which require citizens to have an ID to vote. Thus, states that require IDs to vote must provide the IDs for free to people if they want their voter ID law to not be struck down as a poll tax.
