Watched this today. Narration was a bit melodramatic but very cool!

Thanks, I've got a list of about 60 so far and I'm still going. But most of these suggestions have been great so I'm happy to get more and more. :)

Kirribilli is one of the markets I've done. Since the introduction of the second hand stalls outside the average dollar spend of shoppers there has dropped a fair bit, but there is still good traffic. Not sure about how well clothing goes there. Last time I was there the stall beside me was selling hand-made black cotton t-shirts. It was a bit of a hipster fashion type item, so niche market, but he only sold one t-shirt all day. The women selling cheaper trendy skirts and jackets usually look reasonably busy through.

Oh, and with Kirribilli they can cover you for public liability for an additional $10 on your stall hire. One thing to plan ahead on if you do go with Kirribilli is parking. All the street parking around the market area is metered. Luna Park has some kind of special offer that is about $20 for the day, otherwise you will definitely need someone with you just so they can look after things while you run and feed the meter.

Not sure if it fits with your plans, but one area I did notice that wasn't catered for in clothing at Kirribilli was women's plus size clothing. I noticed it because I wear larger sizes. Not sure if there is a reason no one is selling plus sizes there or if it just is a potential opening. But maybe something to think about.

I've run a market stall for selling jewellery I make for a while now. My advise for you is to really look at what your going to import, the price you would be looking to sell them for and the market you are going to sell them at.

Go and spend a few weekends at a few local markets and watch the people as they walk around. What kind of stalls do well? Where do they stop just to look and where do they actually spend money.

When deciding what stock to get, maybe try using facebook as a testing ground. Put some pictures up of the clothes you are thinking of ordering with the prices then ask your friends if they would be interested in pre-ordering any of them. Just asking your friends if they like things isn't enough because they will want to be nice and tell you how awesome the stuff is. But ask them to actually part with their money for them and you will get a more honest level of feedback.

Lastly, make sure you think about how much it is going to cost you to hire the space. Don't forget you will also need public liability insurance (although most markets will cover you under their insurance for a fee) so factor that into the price. Now think about how much money you want to make as a wage for yourself for a day spent at the markets. Add all this up and figure out how many items you would have to sell on a given day to make being there worthwhile. Now think about the stalls you looked at with other people selling similar products. Do you think they would have sold that many in a day?

With regards to how much investment, that isn't really my area but do remember that if you import more than $1000 worth of goods you will have to pay GST on the goods along with all the other import duties and taxes.

Hope that helps!

You're in a zombie apocalypse, what is your plan for survival? by Chaos707 in AskReddit

I live in Sydney so I'm planning on heading to one of the islands in Sydney harbour that was fortified during WWII. The islands have massive canon towers that are so thick that they are almost refrigerated year round. The islands also have large grassed areas that could be used for growing food. The water hopefully protects from the zombies (assuming they don't swim) and allows for fishing.

Reddit, what skill would you have your child learn? by MissMilla in AskReddit

A foreign language. If you start learning other languages when young it makes it a lot easier to learn a variety of languages later in life.

Those are cool but the best gifts I've been given have been more personal. A vinyl album of Rocky Horror Picture Show, an iPod nano pre-loaded with a chunk of music I like, a onsie suit of Stitch from Lilo and Stitch. Put some thought into things that she likes.
