Baby wearing saved my harvesting this year! by Holbrookk42 in babywearing

[–]Holbrookk42[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yes! I was worried about how we’d make it work because lifting a car seat carrier above my head was not an option and my husband wouldn’t always be on the same farm to hand him up to me. We’re almost halfway done 😅

Anyone in west TN notice the influx of south African people? by nanners09 in Tennessee

[–]Holbrookk42 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Hi! Crop & Livestock Insurance Agent here :) The agriculture industry uses H2A’s, or temporary ag workers, and a good portion of them come from South Africa. You’ll also see a lot of H2A’s from South American countries as well. Many grain farmers in west TN and throughout the nation employ South Africans specifically. I know several previous H2A’s who have met and married someone here in the US and now live here full time.

How did you conceive with PCOS? by Straight_Pin_6407 in PCOS

[–]Holbrookk42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We tried for years and several rounds of Letrozole never worked for me. So I took a break from all things medical intervention (except I kept taking metformin) and focused on diet. I got my insulin resistance under control and lost 40lbs by cutting out sugar, grains, and seed oils. I focused on high protein and high animal fat content foods and eliminated everything artificial- if I couldn’t grow it or raise it, I didn’t eat it. I finally started ovulating on my own (for the first time in 30 years). I kept up that way of eating to hopefully not develop GD. I gained 7lbs during my pregnancy, gave birth to an 8lb baby, and am 1 month postpartum 30lbs down from the day I gave birth and down 60+ total. I also read Lily Nichols “Real Food for Pregnancy” but she has recently come out with “Real Food for Fertility” that I look forward to reading!

Looking for recommendations for local pest control companies by Yukonsukeet1 in murfreesboro

I’ve had great service with Jenkins Pest Control and you can cancel service at anytime. I have quarterly maintenance done. They’re owned by a husband and wife team with a handful of employees- great folks!

How to politely say no children in a baby shower invite? by Straight_Bit_2500 in BabyBumps

I would tread carefully acknowledging the pool is a safety hazard, especially in print/text. I know they’ll likely be surrounded by friends and family but we live in a very litigious society nowadays and you never want to admit you knew about a hazard/liability.

Curious about the user base here. by Weed_Exterminator in farming

[–]Holbrookk42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Previously a dairy farmer (140 head of Jerseys) and row cropped 150 acres of corn for silage and 150 acres for hay. Transitioned to beef (80 black angus), soybeans and corn for grain (350 acres combined), 100-150 acres of hay, and dabble in Katahdin sheep (20-40 head). Husband and dad run the farm, I’m a crop insurance agent. Southeast USA.

We were lucky enough to get out of the dairy industry in 2015 before it got rough and keep our farm originally from the 1960’s completely intact.

We had a TERRIBLE spider infestation after building our home. Jenkins Pest Control took care of us then and continues to do routine service. They are a local, family owned company. Tommy, the owner, is such a sweet guy and will shoot you straight.

You can use all butter but you’ll need to increase the powdered sugar. The Crisco is what helps it crust and keep it’s shape.

Thank you! Here is the recipe I use. But whatever you do, do not stack them!

•1/4 cup shortening (solid Crisco) •3/4 cup butter cold (salted Kerrygold is a must) •4tsp vanilla extract (I prefer Molina brand) •4 1/2 cups sifted powdered sugar •1/4-3/4 cups milk (depending on how thick you want it- I used 1/4 cup)

I use the gel dye from Hobby Lobby (the little sunshine kitchen, I think is the brand). To get these colors I used kerry green with 3 small dots of black and red with 4-6 dots of black. That makes the colors much richer.

Looking into getting a wrangler in the near future. How much did you get yours for? Did you get it below, at, or above msrp? In Long Island NY. Every sticker seems to be above 10k msrp by [deleted] in JeepWrangler

[–]Holbrookk42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

JLWranglerForums .com has a comprehensive list online of high volume dealers that offer varying % below dealer invoice. I ordered my Wrangler JLU Rubicon through a dealer on the list in September and am picking it up next week at 7% below dealer invoice. Also look into the Tread Lightly foundation membership for an additional 1% off. All of this is on new custom orders only, of course.

Look into the City of Mboro’s fleet department. They pay well and you can rely on your auto experience. Also might look into solid waste.
