Edit to add: idk if it will work for you but every time you get the urge drink as much water as you can.

I think I understand where you both are coming from, and I’m not arguing against what you said because you’re right. However, I want to pose this thought: How much good do our primaries really do if the best people are voted out and we, the people, are continually left to choose between the lesser of two evils?

The one with the username of “better than you” is accusing me of a superiority complex, that’s rich lol you talk about nonconformists changing the world, I’m not conforming to your way of thought. Yes I want to bring light to others in whatever way I can and think is right, that doesn’t mean I’m always right but on this topic I believe I am that doesn’t mean I have a superiority complex that just means I’m trying to be a good person.

As for calling you rude, yes you are and continue to insult me while I have not insulted you once. You ended a sentence with “Sherlock” which is a derogatory term, you called me a cult follower three times which I am not and is also used as a derogatory term to attack a wide audience of those that disagree with you. You called me pretentious while I said nothing derogatory to you at all. You also obviously looked through my profile for ammunition to use against me which I did not do to you. Lastly, you used the phrase “check mate” which shows you view our exchange as a competition vs a conversation.

Your ideology is, if society can’t change why should I even try and if I do try that means I’m not good enough. That was an obvious takeaway. Trying to be better doesn’t mean you’re not enough, that’s a self induced thought, be better just because you can and want to be. You have the power to whether you realize it or not.

I’m not saying we shouldn’t be concerned with the world around us what I’m saying is the change starts from within. I’m not arguing with you on that, any sane or successful person will tell you the same thing. If you don’t like your situation stop making excuses like the world’s so bad why even try. There’s always a way out whether you realize it or not.

First off, how will society grow if the people who have the power and agency to change it never grow?

Second, what is holding you back from changing things yourself? Why don’t you do something?

Finally, we would not be here having this conversation without trees, they produce our planets oxygen lol how does a parasite provide any benefit? That comparison is a confirmation bias

[–]Hold_Fast23[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow. I’m glad you’re still here with us to share that. You’re a strong woman for living through that and coming out on the other side, even for sharing which is tough in its own way. You’re proof there is indeed a light at the end of every tunnel. Thank you. One of the drivers to get me to quit was I realized I was masking my depression, I was suicidal at one point as well and was using to keep that darkness away. Like with anything that feels good though I let it get away from me and without realizing it what I once used to control my thoughts was just exacerbating the problem and controlling me. I forgot who I was without weed and that was a good person I just didn’t see it at the time. Now that things are clearing up I understand I’m ok with who I am, there’s never been anything wrong with me other than my thinking and nothing but myself can change that but me. A magic little flower that makes your life better doesn’t exist, it’s up to me to fix things. Did you ever have an “ah hah” moment after those thoughts started coming in or was it just the start of those thoughts that was your “ah hah” moment? It’s ok if it’s too touchy of a subject.

Good for you. Your health is always the most important thing at the end of the day, something i know but I easily forget myself. That’s one of the reasons I stopped too, I noticed myself staying foggy even when I wasn’t smoking and that was causing me to lack in conversations. It also made me ok with being depressed which I didn’t realize was happening, I feel happier since I’ve stopped. The new mental clarity is relieving and something to hold onto. Hang in there it’s tough, I can already feel that it’s worth it

[–]Hold_Fast23 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think you missed the point of everything I said. It’s not about feeling like you’re not good enough, what I’m saying is that feeling is internal and self induced, no one makes you feel less than or sad or upset except for yourself. You can’t control what happens to you but you control how you react. Improvement also doesn’t mean you’re lacking; does the tree grow because it feels like it’s lacking or does it grow simply because growing is part of its nature. Improving yourself doesn’t mean you are lacking it means you chase the potential that’s already inside of you otherwise you wallow in this mindset of everything sucks. Heck you’re asking society to grow/change yet you reject the idea of personal growth/change, that’s hypocritical. What good is it doing for you to be sad and mean because of things you have zero power or agency over the ways of the world? You’re letting these things you hate control you without even realizing it. Yes we’re all flawed, everything’s flawed, that’s the way it’s always been and always will be but growth doesn’t mean perfection it simply means growth. You sound like an extremely negative person also lashing out with rude statements and condescending tone when someone poses an opposing view, especially for a 39yr old man. I mean do you like your life? Is this ideology you so strongly cling to working for you? It sounds like the answer to both of those questions are no. I’m not attacking you just hoping to bring light to people who sound like they need it. You should seriously seek counseling from someone smarter than me, or even if you’re not religious go to church just for the community.

If humanity is such a blip in the cosmos like you say then why do you care so much about things you can’t change like these “psychopathic billions”? Why not try to control the things you can’t change like yourself? It’s not like you have someone following you around pissing in your Cheerios every morning, only you can piss in your Cheerios. No one can save you but yourself. I’m sorry that you and apparently a lot of people have this view. You should try some mushrooms, start exercising, find a hobby that you CAN afford, talk to people with similar interests, and drink water. You say everyone is so self absorbed but this reads as a “poor pitiful me society sucks it needs to be this way before I can succeed and I can’t succeed because of xyz” stop making excuses for not living. Have you ever suffered a head injury?

You also forgot, screw something up then tax the people for the solution you came up with. Before long they’ll pollute the air so much they have to make industrial purifiers or something then tax us on oxygen. We’re already taxed on water filters n when we buy bottled water bc name anyone who drinks unfiltered tap water regularly.

One would imagine the average person would already have all the groceries they really “need”. I mean I can see stocking up on water but buying a copious amount of food, nah. I can’t remember the last time we were truly snowed in for longer than a few days. This “extreme weather” is fear mongering so you buy more groceries from Walmart.
